I have no info on Rebecca. However, do you know who Jesse's parents are? Is he related to the Colberts in Wells/Huntington county IN after 1845?

If your male surname is Colbert or a variant, and if you have me order it, and you can then pay for it through the website, I just rechecked the price and it would be $119.00 for 37 markers, if ordered and paid for right away. Otherwise, it would be well over $200.
Why don't you write me directly, and see what you want to do with this, etc. My email should come up within this site, but yours isn't.

This DNA information has been helpful. Can you give me an idea (ballpark)price for the DNA testing if done before the 31st?

You asked about the DNA testing, male or female. They do both tests now. The YDNA test is the one that works best and it is for the male. Males have a genetic makeup that stays static and since they also usually carry the surname then tracing those lines are the easier thing. However, the female testing would also sometimes be helpful as well, for it is often through those collateral lines that we discover something helpful if we are trying to trace far back in time and discover paper documentation as well. I would recommend a 37 marker YDNA test for a male, and again this price FTDNA has on that now, only until Dec. 31, is a great price.

Someone asked about the group projects with DNA testing. Actually, you can get the testing done if ordering within a group and with FTDNA you have the option of joining another one also -- say you might be matching closely with two surnames you want to keep in mind and search more on. Then, too, some of the groups are geographical and include many surnames, as an Irish one does for our Colbert surname, for example. However, you can order directly and then join. We have a Colbert surname subgroup with FTDNA. If others with like genetic makeup are also testing, then the matches are there; it gets iffy determining which particular family one belongs with which is why going up to 37 markers is helpful. The paper trail with documents, census, etc., which we all ordinarily do sometimes solves that problem and knowing the geographical location of where to search for them, which is another helpful thing with DNA, is also a great help. If anyone is interesting, we would welco!
me participants and the 12/31 date is when higher prices would go into effect.

So this means that after they do the test they give you a list or a group to
go to where you all are related?
That is where this all gets a little fuzzy.
Are there more fees involved in keeping your name in the mix...or accessing
the mix?

I know about this, and for those who doubt that DNA makes sense, it does. For those doubters, the person who does this kind of testing, does so in order to compare the markers, which is what the results amount to, found in the genetic make-up which match with others. In this way, then, because the male genetic makeup is pretty static, with a few mutations or changes perhaps over long periods of time, genetic lines can be traced back for years and years, thus determining one belongs to a certain family line. With 25 to 37 markers this tells a lot about what family lines are connected. It is complicated, but that is why there are group projects for those who find they compare, and places to search and compare that is easily done and others also post family histories and ways to connect that help also. It works and tells a great deal.

What does a report like this look like? Does it give the names and contact

I have been reading these e-mails lately due to the fact that my husband is
a Colbert whose family was from GA and prior to 1840 had lived near the border
area of NC/SC at Spartenburg & Rutherford areas. We have been considering
a DNA test to help us narrow it down a bit. However, if this is what is sent
as a result (I went to your link) I would consider that to be a waste of
money. It makes no sense at all...might as well go to a crystal ball reader.

Well, if you are trying to find out relationships to others, as in your case, establish a for sure relationship, if others have also done testing, these can be compared and that relationship definitely established. As in our case, we also know who our distant relations are back to our ggg grandfather, but beyond that we want to know also. The DNA will eventually tell us that as I have known it to be the case with others. It can establish a local in which to research and the Haplotype will establish origins and point toward migration patterns as well. Go to familytreeDNA.com or ysearch.org and check out some of the information on YDNA testing, which is the male genetic testing, which stays pretty static over time, thus allowing determination that male are in the same bloodlines. If you are truly interested, this offer FTDNA has out until the end of the year is a great offer and you should take advantage of it.
Let me know, for you would want to link with a project with common surnames as well.

Hi Karen, I am so new to this however my cousin has been doing this research for over ten years now.
She sent me a link to a DNA database that shows a match to the colbert's. Would you be interested in me sending you this link? Or have you already seen something similar.
I just emailed my cousin back because I could not make heads-or-tails of the data. I have no idea how to read it.
I can forward it to you though if you'd like.
Happy Holidays!
Michelle

Yes my last name is Colbert. My Grandfather lived on the Poarch Indian reservation. His dad was William and grandfather was Fleming!
What is the benefit of getting a DNA test done? I mean as far as what does it prove with me already knowing my grandfather and great?
Definitely interested, my main reason for doing the research is basically just to prove to the BIA my bloodline and have my kids recognized. Which would have been really simple if my Grandfather would have registered my dad. But now my grandfather is passed away I now have to jump through hoops.

I don't know if our family with a James Colbert in IL and we think and earlier Elisha in GA, perhaps connected to an earlier James there is connected to your Flemingtine or not, but indications seem to be that they might for there are names that crop up with DNA and in places where they both were. I have collected quite a bit through the years. If you look on the Internet you will find the earlier Flemingtine, who had a daughter Sarah E. who wed a Vincent, daughter Mattie wed several times and this is where some of the current research gets iffy, but you may want to check into that information. There is also a Poarch Indian web site you might want to join which might help some. I take it your surname is Colbert, for if it is, you might want to do the DNA, which is telling us a great deal, and we would welcome that. Prices at FTDNA are currently very good, about $120 for a 37 marker test, which is a great price, but that lasts only until 12/31. I truly don't think we ca!
n be sure of who relates to whom until this is done, and so far we have connected at least two lines of our family and thus are sure of the blood lines back to about 1772 -- then questions arise. Let me know if you are interested at all, and I can send you a link to find out more, etc.

Ok sandra I follow you now. Well I know for a fact that the info on My Grandfather and My Great Grandfather ( william d colbert born in 1901 married to a Eunice T Colbert ) is correct and that they both were members of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Atmore ,AL. And My GG Grandfather was Fleming Tine Colbert ( abt 1888 ) married to Emma L Mobbs. But the issue from their back is that the figuring out the correct data to follow gets tough.
Not trying to ruffle any feathers or anything, All I really know is from Myself back to My GG Grandfather, but then it seems that MY GG Grandfather Fleming, has the same name as his father.
Any info you have that leads to my family is beneficial, and vice versa
