After looking through the notes, a couple names popped up as sources.
1) Marguerite McKinney of Des Moines IA- she contacted my great aunt Sis a long time ago about genealogy, may be in Des Moines IA
2)Robert Allen Woodson of ARlington Texas- provided info on the Woodsons and Colberts
3)Mrs. Hathaway- contributed to the furthest known ancester that I have of the COlberts, as well as on the gedcoms
4) Diana Virginia Woodson- may be the creator, as she refers to herself in the first person (Scharfenberg Meinert)
This file was said to have been created using Windows Family Tree Maker in 2001, so time has lapsed, but it is a massive compilation of my family.

While searching tody, I came across a one world tree that contained all of my family information on the Colberts. I first found this entry by searching for Daniel Ellsworth Colbert b. 1809, married to Elizabeth McHurther. This Daniel has a father John W. Colbert married to Eleanora P. Ellsworth(ellen). However, when looking at this, several people were linked to one source for the information. However, under contact, it says unknown. What is strange is that there is a gedcom file which has my mother and aunts, and the last name of who they married. This continues for several generations of Colberts who are distant cousins. What is interesting is that the notes on some of the people reference a MRS. HATHAWAY, MARGARETTE. Some other names of this person were Curcio. I would like someone to help find this person if they are out there. To do this I wll include my background of the Colberts.
My Mother married a Larson
Her Mother Betty, married Richard Colbert in Fairmont west Virginia.
Richard Colberts parents were Fred Edward Colbert (b.1905 What Cheer IA) and Bessie Lucille Swaney.
Fred Edwards parents were Mary Jeanette Hamer and Martin Edgar Colbert (b.1861 Louisa IA).
Martin Edgars parents were John S Colbert (b. Dec 28 1831 OH) and Lydia Dix.
John S Colberts parents were Daniel Ellsworth Colbert (b. 1809 NY City) and Elizabeth McHurther.
Daniel E. parents were John W. Colbert (b. Aug 16 1784 in NY and died May 22 1831) and Eleanora P. Ellsworth (Feb 3 1786 d. Sept 3 1862 (OH)).
Or if you have any info on this family that would be great. They were primarily in What Cheer IA, Lebanon OH, Turtle Creek OH, and New York. My generation, and my granfathers were primarily What Cheer and Fairmont West Virginia. It is strange that some relation of mine is doing this research and has such a vast amount of it, but I have no way of contacting them . Thanks for your help.

George Colbert, age 14, is listed as a student at the Choctaw Academy in Scott County, Kentucky, 1838.
I am not related to this family, just passing on this information, which comes from a webpage called "Choctaw Academy" The link for the site is listed below.

Thanks for your reply.
How interesting. I do not know if my line of Colbert's descends with the James Logan COLBERT/CALVERT or the James and William Colbert/Calvert that was in the are of Tuscaloosa Co. and Bibb Co. Alabama as Hiram Colbert in the 1830's.
I do believe that my Jeremiah Colbert 's father was John D. Colbert > son of Hiram Colbert and Mary Arnold > possibly son of Elisha Colbert....
Yes, it would be curious to a DNA from my line of Colbert to see a possible connection of others.

Well this is good -- and quick -- news! I had heard that I have a cousin Tony Colbert in Colorado I think. He I think would be my father's cousin, so we must be seconds (??). So far on Ancestry.com I can tell that I am the ggd of LC Colbert Sr. married to Arie Eleanor Ball, who was the son of Jeremiah Colbert married to Amanda Hewitt, who was the son of John D. Colbert and Mahala Howard, and so on, and so on.
I tell you, even though it costs a pretty penny, Ancestry.com has so far been amazing.
How are you related to the Colberts and where do you live?

Calverts and Colberts of AL --
I am curious that you have attention turned to Jeremiah Colbert in your genealogy work & Alabama.
The Calvert Surname Project at Familytreedna has several Colbert participants, among them those working on the family that in legend removed from Cumberland county, PA to Georgia and dispersed from there; another family descending from William Colbert of NC/SC who removed to GA and the family across the south; a third factor of course, are the Colberts who descend from James Logan Colbert, whom I have oft wondered that he might have been of PA origin, a James Logan being of important political stature in Colonial PA.
At any rate: A Jeremiah S. Calvert had a land deed i Madison County AL 16.00 18 March 1818 #6885. I don't myself know to which family this Jeremiah belongs but he is in Madison and nearby Calverts who are defined in Dewel Lott's book, "Our Calvert Kin". One of the accomplishments of the DNA project is to prove that Edward Calvert is kin but not brother to the primary 3 Calverts of AL - Joseph b 1782, Jonathan b 1790 and William b 1792/3 who were deeded land from a William Calvert near the time of 1815 in AL.
William Calvert, via the circumstantial evidence is the father of the three sons. I had thought that Edward was another son -- he removed from TN to AL near the others and later to Saline Co, AR and then on to Texas. Edward apparently orginated in Sevier Co TN
and married Nancy Canterbury there of the Canterbury family of VA. The DNA project has shown he is not the son of the same sire but a cousin. The interesting part of this is that the legen of William who deeded land to Jonathan and William b 1792/3 was of TN and perhaps VA.
This fits the story line of three brothers of Botetourt Co, VA--Robert, James and a William who remove from VA to TN. William fits this particular William and the Canterbury family lived next door so to speak and has another marriage to the Calverts.
I don't know that any of this relates to your searching but I do know that Calverts are found as Colbert and Colvert in particular as well as many other spellings of the surname. This includes Calverts of my ancestry who descend from Calverts of Chester Co PA who removed from County Armagh, IR, originating in Yorkshire via John Calvert b 1580 who married Grace LNU and removed to Ireland before 1617. My 5th great grandfather was known in records varyingly as Calvert, Colbert and Colvert.
One way to find a family ancestry is to have a male participate in the Calvert surname project (y-DNA) and see if the results align with known samples or not.
(Calvert surname, sic - Calvert, Colbert, Colvert, Calbird, and so on, including Alias Harrison Alias Harris).
We have made some tremendous progress in this research project, for all families, including the Calverts descended from Lords Baltimore, Calverts of PA and Ireland, Calverts of the Deep South(such as you are deeling with) and so on.
find the project at http://www.familytreedna.com we have an accompanying discussion group -- Calvert_Genealogy at yahoogroups and have a website started up as well; calvertgenealogy.net.
Dewel was not able to fit Jeremiah to any of these families as being kin -- but this Jeremiah S. was in the same area. Moreover, he was not able to fit Edward b 1788 to the family either but DNA shows this to be true. Circumstantial evidence shows that Edward is the nephew of the William mentioned and son of James Calvert of Botetourt Co VA, who was brother to Robert and William of Botetourt. Also related are probably Robert Calvert of Calvert Texas who is likely the son of William Calvert b 1775 who married Lucy Rogers. Lucy is found in AL in a land deed by herself about 1826 if I recall correctly. I think that William 1775 is also kin to the Calverts of Botetourt but we are only beginning to isolate factors to see from whom they
originate. Ella Foy O'Gorman wrote about Robert of Calvert TX (b1802 TN) who married Mary Keesee as being descended from Richard Calvert b 1669 m Sarah who was 4th son of William Calvert PSOM b 1642 m Elizabeth Stone and drowned in the Wicomico R. in 1682. Whether this is true or not is in question as we seem to be fitting Robert to William Calvert b 1775 of TN and this appears to be tied to the Calverts of Botetourt CO VA.
Any input in this regard would be appreciated; I as well encourage participation in the Calvert DNA project (Colberts welcome--of course if found to be a dissimilar line, the result can be crosslisted as Calvert or Colbert etc).
write me if you have questions,
best regards,

Colbert, Sr. > son of Jeremiah Colbert > son of John D. Colbert and Mahala Howard > son of Hiram Colbert and Mary Arnold > son of possibly Elisha Colbert and Marianna ??> possilby son of a James or William Colbert ......so far no relations to the James Logan Colbert.....but maybe a distant kin??

Hi Kim--
I am Benae Colbert, my father is Wilburn Lewis Colbert Jr (b. 1937), his father was Wilburn Lewis Colbert Sr. (b.~1898), his father was Luther Columbus Colbert Sr. They were from Coleman, TX. I had thought my lineage was from Levi Colbert from the Chickasaw Nation, but it's looking like I'm from Jeremiah Colbert and Manda Hewitt. I'm just starting all this so will post as I find things.

This was my father's grandfather. So it went Luther Columbus Sr>Sons: David, LC Jr, and Wilburn Lewis Sr. (my paternal gf). But my dad (WL Jr.) says LC Sr's father was Benjamin, whose father was Levi of the Chickasaw Nation, which can't be right according to all this on Ancestry.com.
Anyone have better information on Luther Columbus Colbert Sr. and all ancestors prior to him?
Thanks,
Benae Colbert

Hello all,
I'm searching for a friend of mine named Henry M. Colbert. I met him while in college during the 2003-2004 school year while he was an exchange student and have not heard from him since. I do know that he is from California, Sacramento I believe (from my research he's also listed in the Cotati area) and goes to school there. For a physical description, he's 5'9 or 6'0, 180 or 190 lbs, brown eyes, black hair (braids at the time), light skin, and a great smile. I believe while we were in school, he was an Art or History major, not really sure.
Where are you Henry? I miss you.
