I am trying to sort out Calverts of PA and John Calvert in Particular who married Jayne Swayne. I have seen data which said that she married a Mercer first and then John, but other information indicates there is something amiss here.
Thomas Calvert who married Sarah Harrison had a son Isaac b 1735. I am a Calvert descendent of Isaac Calvert of Greene County and would wish to contact and obtain any information of a descendent or Researcher of Thomas Calvert, wife Sarah their children.
Please note: I am the co-coordinator for the Calvert Surname Project at FT/DNA. I would greatly appreciate someone from either of these families assisting in data or participating in the FT/DNA project.
Thanks, David Bell

Message Board Post:
I am seeking descendents, data, and records for Alexander Calvert who married Mary WHeeler, daughter of Isaac Wheeler in Somerset County MD, Coventry Parish, in 1744 of Record.
Also if there is a known descendent of Alexander who would have been born approximately 1725 who is known and could participate in the Calvert Project at FT/DNA it would be a wonderful assist.
There is a William Calvert, Planter of court records in Somerset county MD Coventry Parish being sued for 1000 lb of Tobacco in 1726 and that court record, though It apparently has not been found itself IS recorded in a court record of 1733 by reference to the origin of the suit.
William Calvert would appear to be the father of Alexander Calvert. Some of these Calverts were known as Colbert.
Known children of Alexander and Mary Wheeler Calvert are
William b 1745/46, Isaac b 1747/48, Alexander Neal b 1753(All are found in Census of 1790 as Colberts), Betty Born 1756 whom I would presume is Elizbeth. Two other daughters have been provided me by Colbert Family researchers...Jane and Mary. I know nothing of them nor their husbands, nor Betty's.
Recently, I went back through the Census data and found Alexander N Colbert in 1810 Dividing Creek PE Somerset and also Nicholas. This Nicholas would be the same approximate age as Alexander Neal so I believe that he also is a son of ALexander Calvert and Mary Wheeler.
William and Isaac are imho in the 1790 Census of Princess Ann's Parish. Neither is present in the 1800 Census. There may also be a brother John and possibly a George.
If you have any information on these Calverts (sic), please post to this message or email me. I am also looking for DNA participants for the Calvert FT/DNA project...
Addendum: I believe the Isaac Calvert of Somerset of record is the Isaac Calvert of Greene County PA by 1798 Land record and Census thereafter. He married probably second Fanny Bulet (sic) This is probably Bullitt but I have yet to find her in any family group derivative spelling. Isaac's issue were prominent in Greene County and they moved on to Tyler VA which became Wetzel County WV. Other counties of course such as Mon, Marshall and Ohio. Thanks,
David Bell

Hi Kristy,
I am a researcher of the Colbert family. I am from the line of John Colbert out of Georgia(Marion County). We are African American. Do you have any information on relatives from Georgia being connected to Va? Do you any wills of Colberts? That's the best way to find info... church records, wills, property... Did your Colberts hold slaves?
God bless in your research.

Hi Vickie,
A male Descendent takes two mouth swabs in a kit received from FT/DNA. The 25 Marker Test is 169.00. You ship the kit that is received back to FT/DNA. it takes about 6 weeks for the lab to process it and post the results. I can send the FT/DNA invite to your designated party or to you... Billing can be via credit card, check, etc. If asst is needed we have volunteers set up to help out for those in need.
Let me know by mailing daipdq(a)juno.com.
We also have a Calvert_Genealogy Yahoo group to accompany the FT/DNA project which also has a mini webpage. When I get more time, I will create a Calvert (sic) webpage for the project which will include Colbert Colvert Harris Harrison as they relate to Calverts, pointing at similar sites if they exist such as the Harris DNA project.
David
David, Vickie, or other Colbert descendants:
Do you know if any of your Kentucky or other Colbert relatives served in the
War of 1812, and in particular if they were at the River Raisin massacre of
Kentucky and Ohio troops in the War of 1812?
Two Colberts, William (or Willy) and Martin Colbert, were listed among the
soldiers who participated in the Battle of River Raisin. I am trying to
determine if they were of the Chickasaw Indian Colbert families (which had a
William Colbert and a Martin Colbert of age to have fought at River Raisin)
or another Colbert family.
Thank you for any information or leads you can provide.
Bob Cole

Vickie,
thanks for posting your findings.
The Calvert (sic) DNA project has been growing steadily. One of the recent discoveries is that a descendent of Jesse Colbert
participated in the DNA study at FT/DNA. Their DNA was an exact match with another participant who is a Calvert.
The following is a brief description of the descent:
Jesse Colbert (Sr) who was born c1760 VA? and died in
Champaign Co., OH in 1852. His wife was Frances
Lucinda unknown b. c 1860 VA? and died in Wells Co.,
IN in 1867 at the home of her son, George. No
marriage date has been found for this couple. They
are first found in the records in Mason Co., KY. They
moved their family to Champaign around 1805, returned
to Mason Co., KY, 1810, then back to Champaign Co.,
OH.
Their first child, Elizabeth was born 31 Dec.
1786/88 in VA, the second child, Toliver born 11 Jan
1789 in VA and the third child, John born 1792 in
Shenadoah Co., VA according to his obituary. The rest
of their children claim either KY or OH as a birth
place (Humphrey, George, Catherine, Alice, Susannah,
Delilah, Nancy, Jesse and Lucinda).
Our ancestor is Jesse Jr. who married Harriet Davis in
Mason Co., KY and moved to Daviess Co., IN. He died
here in 1848--son Levi Davis Colbert(eldest son) whose third
son Asel via Friend B Colbert....
The DNA does match Calvert Descendents whose origin is from Prince William County, VA.
Another Colbert who ends up in Fayette County, PA is John Colbert(in the Colbert Family reunion booklet)--who married Catherine Lynn. He and wife bought land from Ezekiel Lynn in 1810. We obtained a copy of the Deed from PW Co and John signed his name Calvert. His DNA matched 2 other participants exactly and another was 1 step removed via a volatile marker.
Do you have a Jesse Colbert Descendent who could participate in the DNA project?
thanks,
David Bell

Recenty, a particpant in the Calvert DNA study who is a Colbert, had a DNA sample taken and provided FT/DNA. This DNA matched that of a Calvert. If you have participants in the various family lines of Colberts, please consider participating in the Calvert (sic) DNA study.
The Descendent of Jesse Colbert matched the DNA of a Calvert Descendent.

I will be happy to send you a copy...How do you want it? It is a very interesting picture. I have no idea why my Peary/Snyder family has a copy of the photo. I know that some of the pearys lived in the general area of Cresson. If you come across any ties with the two families, I would greatly appreciate it the information. Thanks for the interest. I hope your grandmother recognizes the family. My email adress is red1805(a)myway.com
