The Times DP Aug 30, 1919 Remembering Colbert
COLBERT
To the Editor of the Times.
Sir : - There is another reason for remembering Colbert just now. He is, as Lord Acton pointed out, the real author of the doctrine of laisser faire, habitually attributed to the "physiocrats" of the next century. These are his words, quoted by Lord Acton:-
La liberte est l'ame du commerce. Il faut laisser faire les homes qui s'appliquent sans peine a ce qui convient le mieux.
The most pressing question in social economics today turns on the truth of that saying. It is not a question of free exchange, but of the free exercise of capacity. Your obedient servant. A Shadwell.

Dear Colbert researchers
For your information thousands of letters have been sent out by one William Pince in the U.K, so-called Genealogist and Chairman of the S.G.N Genealogical Foundation (whatever that might be) offering "the unique Family Chronicle" at a bargain price. The same offer is also being made to hundreds of other surnames. The "company" concerned is apparently registered in Holland. Do not be tempted! Whatever is offered is almost certainly indiscriminate and unchecked mass data which has been describes as no more than a telephone directory! it is worthless in terms of family research and is certainly not worth the asking price. If you have been contacted in this way,put the letter where it belongs - in the waste bin. This has also been a point of discussion with the GOONS & at the Autumn Federation of Family History Societies general meeting and they were unable to do anything about this type of scam. The only defence is to warn as many people as we can through the various lists etc
For clarification you can view many sites on google also warning of this scam (some are below):

£250 Damages against a Licensed Victualler.
Colbert v. Colbert And Herbert.
In this undefended petition Mr. Charles Denis Colbert, Chief Inspector of the Federated Malay States Police, of Kuala Lumpur, sought the dissolution of his marriage with Mrs. Emily Jane Colbert, Nee Draper, on the ground of her adultery at an address in Grosvenor Terrace, Folkestone, with Mr. Sid Herbert, a licensed victualler, of the Swan Inn, Folkestone. The petitioner claimed dames.
The marriage took place at the Dover Register Office on January 29, 1906, and there are three children, daughters, 21, 18 and 10 years old.
Mr. Clifford Mortimer appeared for the petitioner.
The PRESIDENT, in giving judgment, said that the adultery was established. The correspondent was quite aware of the nature of the wrong which he was inflicting on the petitioner. Had he (his Lordship) not been told that the petitioner only wished to recoup himself for the expenses he had incurred, he would have awarded a larger sum than the amount he now granted - namely £250.
He pronounced a decree nisi, with costs, against the correspondent. The question of the custody of the youngest child was reserved.
Solicitors - Messrs. Hopgood, Mills, Steele and Lonsdale, for Mr. George W. Haines, Folkestone.

I am looking for the family of Robert Colbert and unknown wife.
They have a daughter Emily b. Nov 17 1882 in Johnstown, PA according to her marriage license to William Macaulay. Emily and William were married July 27, 1901 in St. Brendans Presbytery, Braddock, Allegheny Co., PA.
1910 Census says she and both parents were born in PA
1920 Census says she and both parents born in PA
1930 Census says she and her father were born in PA and her mother in New or West Virgina (difficult to read)
I also have a 1900 cenus for Robert Colbert b. Feb 1849, age 51 married 26 years, he born in PA, Father born in MD, and Mother born in Virginia. I am not sure this is the right family but they do have a daughter Emilly b. Feb 1882 which is close. On this same census are two other daughters, Edna b. Sept 1877 age 22 and Nita b. sept 1879 age 20, and a grandson Earle b. Jan 1899 age 1.
Looking for any connections with this family. I have more info from William and Emily to present if anyone is interested. Feel free to contact me directly.

i know you all don't have people in Chelsea,Revere,Winthrop,Ma. but some
might. we are starting a new thing. A DNAProject [Oh.! no not another DNA
Project] This one is different. The list has a tremendous amount of documentation on
the 3 towns involved Chelsea,Revere , and Winthrop, Ma.[No.
Chelsea-Prattsville] We will unsing DNA and the documentation to establish a genealogy of the
Cities. You come into play if you have People who lived there.
Male y DNA is last named based it follows all the fathers and where the name
came from. The female Mtdna follows the mothers line. the names change as did
your moms and grandmoms.
We have many clusters with over 30 families with a total of 80,000 names.
The plan is to get people whose DNA is tied to the three towns. Think of a box
with out a top at night. its filled with people who are emiting lasar lights
beams. The Males shoot out straight beams and the Females beams look like
stairs. The straight will intersect and the stairs will too.
What will that show? The stairs will correct the lack of maiden names in pre
1890 state records. Also it will also show conections between those
clusters.T straight will also show shared fathers down in history.
If you are involved with people who lived in these towns fell free to join

Thanks to Mrs. Barbara McMinn who recently sent me this letter for safe keeping. Barbara acquired the letter in Arizona U.S.A during purchasing items from a yard sale.
The letter is quite sad in nature and dated January 1956. I would like to be able to pass this letter onto a living relative. The letter has been sent to a Mrs. Gertrude Colbert and speaks of her birth family ~ a brother Dwight and her sister Alma.(maiden name is not known) other names mentioned is a Toby. I could assume this Toby is a Colbert but I cannot be certain.
Please view this link to read the letters contents if you are interested please contact me accordingly.
