There probably is a connection, somewhere in Ireland. The TALBOT immigrants were Anglican or Protestant, as were all of those I named.
Some relatives believe that my DANNs migrated in the Brunswick in 1818, but then they also say that one of the migrating brothers m. in Tipperary in 1821. Can't be both. Their 1823 and 1825 land grant petitions would make the latter more likely.
Thanks for replying. Let's keep in touch.
Perhaps someone on the COLBERT list will provide a link. Anyone out there come close?

I am sure they are probably related---maybe first cousins. My John Colbert was married to Anne Dowell and had 5 daughters and he settled in Goulbourne Twp., Carleton County. He came to Canada at the same time as his brother William who was married with 3 daughters and a son whose name was also John. However he also stayed in Carleton Co. These Colberts came to Canada with Richard Talbot on the ship Brunswick in 1818. I believe the London area was mostly settled by Thomas Talbot. That being said, they all came from Cloughjordan in Tipperary and are probably related. If you look at the other names they too are very common in the Ottawa area. One of John's daughters Susan married William Hodgins and another Sarah, married a Young. I am descended from the third daughter Frances who married Thomas Rivington, also from Cloughjordan. If you would like more information email me and I will be glad to see if I can help.

Marcy,
I have a John COLBERT from Cloughjordan, Tipperary, Ireland, who migrated to the London, Ontario, Canada area. I do not have his wife's name, but his children were (sound familiar?) Mary, Thomas (1804-1861; m. Catherine "Kitty" MOONEY), Rebecca (m. John "Stoney SHOEBOTTOM), Sarah (m. Henry "Carman" HODGINS), Margaret (m. Joseph ARMITAGE), Ann (m. Frederick FITZGERALD), Elizabeth (m. William RAWLINS), and Susan.
John COLBERT was my fourth great-grandfather. I descend through Elizabeth COLBERT and William RAWLINS. Their daughter Sarah, called Sally, m. William DANN, who also migrated from Tipperary in a TALBOT-organized party that reached London in the early 1820s. I have an 1825 petition for land grants, signed by both William DANN and William RAWLINS. Also named in the petition are several members of the first (crown-subsidized) and second TALBOT immigrations. William RAWLINS is said to have come from Queen's County, but probably migrated in one of the Tipperary groups. Since the children in the immigration parties married others in the groups, I have TALBOT immigration surnames all throughout my London lines.

I have a photograph of a Pearl COLBERT that belonged to my grandmother, whose maiden name was LONG. She spent her life in northwest GA, but had family in central GA, southeast AL, and eastern TX. Any Colbert who thinks she might be a relation, let me know and I will e-mail you a scan of the photograph. She is wearing a long, patterned dress with lots of dark lace, lambchop sleeves and a tiny waist, so I am guessing it is pre-1900. I have found no ties to her in my family trees and suspect she may have been a family friend or girlfriend of Grandmother's brothers.

Hi Everyone:
The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com
<http://www.genseekers.com>
Behind the password protection are links to the free
genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own.
In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to
surrender a credit card or bank account number. You
have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess
what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this
surprise you?
One person who recently fell for the come-on had
his/her account dinged not once, but twice.
So beware.
