I think Phillip Colbert was a great-uncle of mine. I think Phillip was the son of George and Mary Colbert and had a much younger brother Samuel Colbert. Sam married Jesse Beare, and they had Dan Colbert of Chester, Illinois who was my grandfather.

The Colberts that you mentioned are not close relatives of the S IL clan; however, there is a large group of Colberts that lived in the south in at least 3 locations. Elbert Country, GA ( Town of Colbert), Montogomery, AL, and Colbert County Al, ( Around Muscle Schoals, Al).
If you want to research your family, go the the census records where you dad's family grew up. It will have his Dad's family records. With that information, track the previous generation.
Email me at Colberttm(a)sigecom.net if you want more details.

My name is Deborah Colbert and I am seeking information on my father's family. My Father's name was Edgar Colbert and he died in 1979. He never talked much about his family except he did have other brothers and sisters. His mother (who's name he never mentioned) died when he was a small child. He and his siblings were raised by an older sister who's name, I believe was Addie. He mentioned, and we visited a sister who's name was Bertha, and she lived in Natchez Mississippi. She died in the 1950's. The only brother he mentioned and visited was a Monroe Colbert, who lived in Ferriday Louisiana. He met and married my mother, Louise Arnold-Colbert in Laurel Mississippi in the 1930's. I have a brother, Charles Colbert who lives in Illinois. If any of these names mean anything to please contact me via email. I know very little about my mother or father's family and would very much like to learn more.
