Am helping with my Aunt's pictures and cannot identify which Colbert family this picture belongs with. On the back says only " Ella Louise Colbert, age 2 yrs. 3 months when this picture was taken" This is a cute little blonde girl sitting in the grass in what looks to be a playground of some type with teeter-totters in the background and some cars also. Picture was developed August 1956. Any information would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,

Hi! I'm sorry to report that there is a lot of research on your part if this
is true. Actually, the first Colberts to arrive in England/Scotland/Ireland
was during the time of William the Conqueror in 1060. They are listed in the
Doomsday Book. Other French Colberts over the years went to
England/Scotland and some returned to France after several hundred years.
For example, Jean Baptiste Colbert, the French Foreign Minister to France
under King Louis XIV, traced his family back to Inverness, Scotland in the
1300's. Jean Colberts wife was, incidently, a Scot and he had holdings in
Inverness, Scotland. Also, don't forget to look at the phonetically written
Colberts, i.e., Colbirds, Colverts, Colvards, etc.

Henry Charles Colbert was my Greatgrandfathers brother and he was born 1808 in Il.He had bro's James, Hiram ,and Drewry. James, born 1792 was my greatgrandfather. Some of my cousins think his fathers name was Elisha. On the internet, someone listed his father as Martin, But we have no record of Martin in Il.Lots of people are searching for his parents. Good luck.
I hadn't heard it before, but I've been doing some research in Ireland and
am finding Irish Colberts. That would totally make sense to me. I think that
I'd start the usual way, by going backwards through ancestors. Find where
pockets of Colberts are in Ireland, e.g., with the Griffith's land
valuations, or anything census-like. Ireland is really tough, though, due to
lack of readily available records. I supposedly have a line of Fruits
(really!) who left France and went to Ireland- in fruit barrels! Research
that! Any produce shipping lists available?
