I'm searching for the book The Descendants of William
Colbert by Catherine Chinn Colbert & William W. Colbert,
1956, Journal Printing Co., Shreveport, LA.
Just a photo copy would be wonderful. I just want to read
the information.
My grandfather, Luther Columbus Colbert, born 1876 in
Colbert county Alabama, moved to Texas around the turn of
the century, told about some relatives that are in this
book.
Thanks!

I'm writing in hopes to obtain some information on my gggg grandfather Joseph Colbert who was originally from Little Washington, VA. His family was quite wealthy, his brother was a dentist and (he) Joseph maintained the familly farm that was successful. The Colberts I am related to once owned the Hackley store in Amisville, Va. His father was close friends with Lord Fairfax and was Executor of his Estate and helped to establish Lord Fairfax Communtiy College in Va. It was rumored that Joseph Colbert moved to Texas and owned oil mines. While in Virginia he had two children William and Mary Brooks by a Gaskins woman in Orleans, Va (Fauquier Co.) Joseph's children owned several hundred acres of land in Orleans, VA and had successful farms. William Henry his son started a school in Orleans, Va in the late 1800's to the early 1900's before his death. Joseph Colbert may have married and had other children for the Gaskins woman whom he had children out of wedlock, was a black a!
merican (freed slave). During that time their relationship was illegal and later they ended the affair and Ms. Gaskins married a black american Mr. Brooks who raised Mr. Colberts mulatto children.
I'm curious to see if anyone has information, please e-mail me at ginger_newman(a)juno.com
