Subject: !!!NEW UPDATE - IGI Search Facility now includes USA!!!
Dear Listers -
I am so pleased to be able to announce this news. An incredible thing has
happened for those searching for kindred connections in the USA. Our
terrifically wonderful Hugh Wallis has done it again!!! Yes, you can now
search the IGI by town, county and state with only a surname... What was
done for the UK has graciously been extended to US records by harnessing
the information so lovingly put together by the LDS.
Use this new search feature here:

Hugh, we salute you! Your philanthropic work is a gift we appreciate.
Best wishes to all,

<<Dear Hugh,
<As I am quite sure you know, all of the Rootsweb mailings lists are
<quite atwitter with your grand performance on putting together this <new
IGI search facility for the UK. I have personally benefited a <great
deal from your work already and thank you heartily for it.
<As I subscribe to the LDS-Lessons list, others were asking when this
<was going to be done for other places, such as the United States. I
<replied to the list that you had done this work on your own and <unless
someone wanted to accumulate the data and ask if you would <share the
programming needed, it probably wasn't going to happen <anytime soon. >>
Was Louis Colbert related (close that is) to James Logan Colbert, father of
Sally Colbert that married Thomas Love in MS? I really have not worked on
that line. It took me over 15 years to find the father of Joseph G.
Mitchell. His mother & family were in history books, but his father died
when he was young and it was difficult finding his first name and being able
to prove it.
The Texas Handbook tells about the Mitchell Ferry, also.
I am in Texas.

My gg grandfather operated the Mitchell Ferry that was just before the
Colbert Ferry. Mitchell died in the mid 1840's. Then, there was the
Colbert Ferry. I know Joseph Greer Mitchell was related to the Colberts via
Joseph's mother, Delilah Love, d/o Thomas Love. I have often wondered
which Colberts were there and from which line they came and the relation.
Have you seen the article in the Handbook of Texas?

The Colbert line I am researching is John Colbert married
Virginia Wheeler on 20 January 1841. They had a child Nancy Ida (Mamie). I haven't found the connection to Shelton or Elizabeth as of yet.
Do you have any information on Shelton that may link him to my John? I do know that John & Virginia were bothe born in Kentucky between 1819 and 1822.

I am trying tolocate Shelton Colbert from Ky and his wife Elizabeth Mabry (I think that was her maiden name and she was born in North Carolina) My grandmother was Rosanna Colbert Hill and I am into genealogy and wondered who took care of her from the age of 8. The cemetery records show that Pleasant and Elizabeth died quite near each other. Please answer answer as I am very interested in what you have learned.

I am the great-great granddaughter of John Douglas(Dard) Colbert. I have some information that my grandmother, Nora Colbert Gaw passed on to me before she died. However, I have no information regarding Grandpa Dard's parents. My father, Alfred Colbert lives in Whiteside, but knows very little of the family history. I would be interested in any information you could pass on to me. Thanks, Vicki

I found this posting by looking for Leo Colbert. I am not sure how the Leo Colbert I am looking for is related to me. I found that name in my grandmother's funeral guest attendant book. Her mother, my great grandmother's maden name was Margaret Colbert. They are from North Dakota so when I saw Leo Colbert and North Dakota in the same posting I got a little curious. I don't know anything else about them unfortunatly.

My grandfather's name was Eugene C. Colbert. In the early to mid 1900's (1920's 1930's 1940's and possibly early 1950's) my grandfather would go to oklahoma to help family pick cotton on the reservation either chickasaw or choctaw areas. We have totally lost contact with what family he was seeing. We know that he went thru the Ada area to get to where he was going. They would pick cotton one bail for one.
He was between 5'10" and 6' with black hair and blue eyes. Thin but strong man. He lived until 1963. He was born in 1877 in Alabama. His father was John Colbert, married to Sallie Burks (madien name, perviously married to an Eggleston who died in the Civil War) John Colbert's mother was Nancy but we don't know her madien name or who John's father is.
Later Sallie Burks Eggleston Colbert married to a man named Stokes and had a son named Jack Stokes. We have a lot of information and stories.
Any one with any information one who Eugene Colbert went to visit in Oklahoma please contact us. We would love to renew family ties.
