Hi Bernice,
I haven't got farther back than the Daniel Colbert who was in Jefferson County
Kentucky in 1789, or rather he was on the tax list. Later he married a second
time we think to Margaret Calhoun in Shelby County, Kentucky in 1804. She died
in Trimble County Kentucky.
The Colberts in Oklahoma may be of Chickasaw and Scottish descent. There were
some chiefs of that tribe who held a lot of land in Tennessee and Western
Kentucky (the area called the Jefferson Purchase) before the Removal.
I don't know if my Colbert ancestors were connected with them. Daniel may have
come here from Ireland.
Does anyone know?
Violet

Bernice, I have never been able to trace my line of Colberts to Colbert
Okla. My ancestor, Thomas, was born in 1796 in Coweta county Georgia. His
sons, Robert and Charles came to Missouri and Arkansas and were preachers for
many years in those states, from late 1800's to 1910 or so. Charles did move
to central Okla. where he was a preacher and raised 13 children. He is
buried in Cement, Okla,. They had a sister named Lucinda and I don't know
whatever happened to her after they moved from Georgia. Do any of these
sound familiar to you? Let me know and I would be glad to share what I have.
Darlene

Mine are actually Colvard's but I have seen so many variants it is best to
check them all out. I believe that mine originally started in GA (which is
just across the line from AL). Mine in the 1900's came to PA (some). But
none of the names sound familiar. The eldest recorded is John Stokely
Colvard (Ire/GA), born 1771. How about you? Any bells?? Melanie
I know the feeling! Get's so confusing! I don't know for sure but "in the
south" - a distant cousin thought maybe Alabama or Arkansas oringinally.
Even KY got thrown in. The settled in Allegheny and Cambria Counties in PA.
That's where I picked them up. Ring any bells?
