This is also my connection with the Colbaugh family. My John Colbaugh was a son of George W. Colbaugh. John married Nancy McAdoo and was killed in the Civil War. Then Nancy married old man Charlie Vincent and had two sons. My great grandfather was Dallas Wilky Vincent. They were in Meigs Co., TN during this time.
I will send another email to you privately.

There are a number of Colboth's (sometimes spelled Colbough or Colbroth) who settled in Tunnel Hill area of Johnson County, Illinois. My Husband's gggrandfather was John Colboth born in 1797 in TN. He married Martha Hewitt (Hewett) b. 1813 in TN in May 27, 1844 (not sure if it was in TN or IL). We are having a difficult time finding John in TN. There are two Johns, one is the son of Jacob Colboth (doesn't seem to be the same John). Could you check to see if this marriage happend in TN. Thanks ... Fran

Paula: You have provided some overlapping information which is exciting. I wonder if you would mind having a phone conversation. This is my husband's family, and I do get names confused. You could possibly help make a connection to TN. A year ago I found records on the LDS website. One is for a John Colboth born in TN in 1793 (4 or 5 years earlier than the John on the Census) showing his father as Jacob (no mother listed). Also found a Jacob Coboth born 1770 in Washington, TN. I just can't seem to make a connect.
There are so many questions I have that I can't even think to put them all into this message. I feel I could learn a lot from you. Please respond by e-mail message and let me know if I can call you one evening or over the weekend to talk.
In answer to your question about Galbreath/Galbraith, those are a few of the various spellings we've run into, which include:
Colboth
Calboth (there is a Calboth website with lots of information)
Colbough (spelling on the 1870 Census)
Colbroth (spelling on the 1880 Census)
Colbaugh
Colbreath
Coolbock, etc, etc
I am just a northerner trying to pronounce the name (Coalbuth); nowhere close to his Southern Ilinois family's pronounciation (Kalbauth ... kind of).
Can you tell me where New Burnside is in relation to Tunnel Hill?
Thanks for all the information you provided, I think you could be on to something.
Fran
