Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

That was the common thinking.
The concept of surnames came to England via the Norman Conquest in the 12th century.
Lord William de Mandeville recieved the land in Somerset called Cocre for his service to William the Conqueror.
His descendants soon bore its name, to show ownership. De Mandeville was their lands in Normandy.
Thus, we hear of Geoffrey de Mandeville de Cocre, and many more ancestors of our line.
These were Normans, of Normandy, or "land of the northmen".
They were originally Vikings. My own dna traces back to Norway.
