I am very interested in this post as I *believe* the William M. Rogers in the 1860 census where Moses is living is my gg grandfather. My gg grandfather was adopted from the Wetumpka area in the mid 1860s after being orphaned by the war. His name was William Moses Rogers. Although he was adopted, he kept his last name of Rogers. He also had another middle name of Beauregard or something similar. I imagine this was possibly added after Gen Beauregard became the hero in the war. His father apparently died in the war and his mother of the flu. He has at least one sibling that also died in the orphanage. William grew up in Etowah County, AL with his adoptive family named Dismukes. Census records record him as being born about 1857 (sometimes listed 1855, other times 1860) and he died in 1922. What is really interesting is that I think that the J. H. Rogers listed as head of household in 1860 is really James Coker, Moses' son. The J. H. Rogers listed is enlisted in the !
Confederate military as James, so the first name is the same. He has the correct birth year and place to be Moses' son, James, too. Also his son having the middle name Moses is compelling. William gave that name to his son, too. If this is James Coker, though, why would he change his name? Was Rogers his wife's name? I don't know. At first I thought Emily the wife was Moses' daughter, but it doesn't appear to be the case as she isn't living with him in 1850. If he isn't James Coker, then I don't know where James Coker went or why Moses would be living with him. This family is very mysterious, but I'm hoping to find some answers soon.

Mrs. M. B. Olsen Passed Away at Her Home in The Valley Last Thursday
Last week, we noted the fact that Mrs. M.B. Olsen, of Big Meadows, had on Thursday morning been found in an unconscious condition, and that Dr. Hanvey of this place had been telephoned for to render medical assistance. Later advice stated that the aged lady was found in the morning of the day mentioned, her condition being as indicated. She never regained consciousness, but gradually sank till about 11 a.m. of that day, when she peacefully passed away.
At the request of the relatives Dr. Hanvey, assisted by Dr. Rutledge performed an autopsy to determine the cause of death. This was found to have been hemorrhage of the brain due to heart troubles with which Mrs. Olsen had been afflicted.
Mrs. Mary [sic] B. Olsen had log been a resident of Plumas. She and her first husband went to Big Meadows in the early history of the county and settled on the ranch where she died. After the death of her first husband, she was married to the late Peter Olsen. Several years ago, he also died, leaving her a widow for the second time. Assisted by her sons, she managed the ranch successfully.
Mrs. Olsen was a quiet and retiring lady, but she possessed good business capacity, and leaves a goodly estate to her sons. She was a good neighbor and friend, and ever devoted to the welfare and comfort of her children, five of whom are left to mourn her loss. They are Horace P. and Frank L. Bailey, and George W., Nelson A. and Edgar A. Olsen. Besides these there are several grandchildren. In their bereavement these have the sympathy of many friends both in Plumas and Butte counties.
Source: The Plumas National Bulletin newspaper, Quincy, California, 21 May 1906.
[Note: While her obituary indicates that her name was Mary, that information conflicts with every census record on which she was enumerated (1860 through 1900). When enumerated during censuses, she was always listed as Melissa, not Mary. Her maiden name comes from the record of her son's (Horace Parks Bailey's) death record. Melissa was a native of Ohio. Her first husband was James F. Bailey, a Pennsylvania native born circa 1825.]
