While searching for my Coker lines I found the following pension for Moses Coker in the War of 1812. Since my Wm Moses Sanders married Priscilla Coker and lived in SC and NC this peaked my interest. It consists of several pages, but I will give facts as it pertains to locations, dates, persons of interest, etc. The location will more than likely tie him into the Darlington/Chesterfield Cokers and might be a help in someones' family tree.
This was a location in the area of the Pee Dee River in SC which extended into Anson Co NC. Anson Pee Dee River was where my William Moses Sanders was born in 1774 Mt. Creek LIttle River as indicated on deeds of father James Sanders (DNA Proved) Family history states Priscilla Coker's mother Cassandra Coker was of Welch descent. A large Welch community settled along this river which was of interest to me. I am seeking information on the parents of Milley Coker, b abt 1755-56 Va, mother of Cassandra by Charles Gary Jr of Laurens SC (1806 Will) which was quite a distance from Chesterfield/Darlington, so more than likely she was not of this Coker line.
On Dec 19, 1850, Moses Coker applied for Bounty Land in Alabama "which he feels he is entitled as a soldier in the War of 1812".This first application states he is a resident of Randolph Co Ala age 58, and was a private in Capt John McNeil's Company SC Militia commanded by Col. Rutledge. He volunteered at Chesterfield Co SC on the 15th day of June 1812 for 6 months. He was honorably discharged at Hatterell ? Point SC Dec 1, 1812. He states he married Sarah McCloud on Sept 6, 1814 in SC. Possibly Sarah died, as in 1850, Randolph Co Ala, no Sarah is mentioned and an Elizabeth age 40 b. SC is listed. Also a James Coker is in the household b Sc age 25. Next door a John Coker is listed age ? 26 or 21? b. SC with wife Julia Coker age 23 b SC. Possibly, he is a son, also.
His service record is included and verified.Several numbers are mentioned, but possibly his service # is 20510 as this is mentioned more frequently.
In 1860, he was living alone in the household of a J.H. and Emily Rogers in Tallapoosa Ala. J.H. age 34 was from SC.I did not find him in the 1870 census nor did I find an Elizabeth or James Coker who were listed with him in 1850. More than likely Elizabeth was a second wife and not the mother of James as she was much younger than Moses.
On Feb 10,1873, he applied for a pension. In his pension application he states he volunteered at Society Hill Darlington SC on June 29, 1812 and was discharged at Hataral Point SC. (I could not find a location with this name. Possibly it was Hatteras Point???)
Another page stated in 1850 he lived in Randolph Co, Ala. in 1865, Chamblee Co Ala and in 1875. he lived in Dade, Tallapoosa Co Ala. In 1873, in his application for a pension, he stated he was age 80 and he lived in the Poor House in Dade, Ala. He must have died in 1874-1875 as that seems to be when the pension ended. Hope this helps someone.

Carolyn,
I have lots of information on the Smith side if you would like. Also interested in getting information on the Coker side. I wrote to your mother several years ago and she replied while she was in a nursing home.
