Moses Coker Beat 7, Tallapoosa, AL 67 1792 South Carolina Male
NOTE: ???? My Coker line goes back to a Moses Coker, born about 1798 in South
Carolina, most likely Chester or Chesterfield counties (I find him there
in the 1830 and 1840 censuses). In 1850, he's in Randolph Co. Alabama,
listed as a shoemaker. I'd be most grateful to hear of any links to
other SC Cokers.
possibilty
(A) I don't think that the Moses Coker 1792 is the same Moses as Moses coker 1810. There is still some possibilty there is some connection???? i just have a note on that link.
(B) Moses Coker died before 1860 or during the CW War/Conflict. There is a note on Moses Jr Coker in 1860 living in 1860 as per census with the Jane Adams family.
(C) Did moses move to Alabama to get away from the war???I think he died, at 50yrs which was about the lifespan of most humans during that time period. If Jesse & william died there would be only Moses C. Coker b1842 (18 in 1860) left plus the girls who wood have been of marriage age. or did the daughter marry and only Jesse & william who died in CW, With only Moses C. Coker male left.
You know that only 30% of data is on the internet. You need to go to chesterfield Co, SC an search local archives if you have not already search there.
I have been checking all data on the Coker Families for Facts and check all data for factural data. Trying to prove
all the data that is floting around. Some not factural some not, just stories.
Keep in touch
Dwight

Did you notice the 1790 census for a Moses Coker 1790 Census St. Thomas Township, Cheraw District? This is probably Moses's father but still no proof. Our Moses was born around 1810 per the 1850 census. I think you might be on something with the Wilson name. Need to check around 1830 to see who lives around Moses.
I have the following:
1860 CENSUS CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C.
In 1860, Moses Coker (age 9) was living with the family of Jane Adams as a laborer. Also living with the family was William Ricketts, age 16.
Do you have this also?
Terri

Dwight:
I've been working on this for years and I lost track of Moses after 1850. However, Em might be on something. Jesse died of typhoid in Raleigh during the war (1863) and as far as we know, he is buried in Raleigh, possibly at Oakwood (I believe is the name of the cemetery). However, there is not a record of his burial there that we can find. Cecelia helped me so much when I hit this brick wall but as you can see, she is stumped also (unless she has found something since the last time we spoke). The 1850 census shows Moses, the girls and two of the boys, William and Moses. Jesse is ennumerated with the family of William Burkley. There is another Moses Coker 1790 in Chesterfield that might be the father of the Moses we are looking for as our Moses was born around 1810.
If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated!
Terri
