George Woods son, married one of my distant cousins too. She also came from a Protor line. The same line of Proctors on my gr gr gr grandmother comes from. One of her later descendents, in turn was a descent of Dicey Coker and John Goates , they are the parents of my gr gr grand father, who were the grandparens of my gr mother, so, it gets confusing. So, several parts of my family all connect into some part of the Coker line.

Wrong Dicey. That one married into what became the line of one of my cousins, not my direct line. But, they would have been cousin line to my gr grandfather. Thsi is anoteh rconnection e believe of how or family knew this lien of Cokers however, and our Dicey (prob. a nicknaem also) was part of it somewhere, even if an considered an illigetimate child.

I have found Leonard buying land in several counties. matching years he lived, So, seems to be this Leonard. Many have said he was apart form his family often on what he claimed were Cattle Ventures. Could he have had children when on these ventures, This is where we wonder if our Dicey may have came in possibly by a woman called Frances. She called one son Leonard. But, could have been after her husbands family also.

Being married to 2 Indian woman at once was not uncommon. They could have up to 5 at a time sometimes 7 depending on where you were. Since this family lived in an Area that had been known fo a long time as Indian Teritory (AR did not become a state untill abt. 1834-36)
Many married several Indian women. marriage was not always by state laws, but, the Indian way, so no marriage record was found at times. This state had a lot of Native American Heritage, many families there, were connected at some time to Indian lines.
I was todld my Dicey Cokeer was inded of native American dEscent. But, we believe this was from her mother, not her Coker father. perhps this was another relationship, with no legal marriage , by white mans standards.

I have seen the Slave Schedules, but, only the owner and how many he had. I was told in my line, and from desc. pics, I believe this--- That my Dicey Coker was Native American. We have not been able to find any Coker who claims connection with her. She was b. bet 1833 -1834 in Arkansas, family came from Tennessee. We believe she came from a Coker, who was probably married, and had an Indian woman on the side, Who probably traveled from his family often. Mother of our Dicey may have called Frances. but, no proof for sure. Dicey, (pos a nickname) married a Goates in Pope Co, AR, her parents were supposedly desceased before this marriage. She was either 18 or close enough to claim to be, when she married in 1852. (she is listed 18 on marriage Index) her family was not from Pope Co, so do not know where she came from, but, have our suspicions. She had short lived marriage and left behind 3 children bef. she either died or ran off. We have heard both stories. So, do not !
know for sure of this either.
Deborah

With regard to the Slaves of William Coker, you may want to go to the Carroll County Arkansas 1850 Slave Schedule. It might be helpful. Unfortunately, the Cokers, Sneeds, and Grahams did have a number of slaves which they originally broght with them from Green County KY in 1818. The William "Buck" Coker lines does not have any Cherokee blood that I can find, but at least two of his brothers seem to have a habit of engaging in polygamy and one in particular is known to have have had three wives at one time, one white, and two Cherokee.
