I am sorry, but I don't recognize any of the names as being a part of my tree. But I sure we surely have to be, somewhere along the line.

Hi Nan,
>From my notes.
I have a Joseph J Coker, son of George W Coker who lived in Cape Giradeau Co, MO and was born in TN. Joseph was born in MO in 1843. I find Joseph in Crockett Co, TN in 1880. His year of birth is 1843 and born in MO also listing both parents as born in TN. His oldest son is G W Coker.
The Joseph Coker in the 1880 Stone Co, MO census is born 1844 MO with both parents listed as being born in Alabama. Also in that census is Charles Coker born 1859 born in Arkansas with his father born in AL and mother born in GA. Charles is living next door to Joseph so my guess he is the younger brother with same father and a different mother.
So it doesn't look like the Joseph in Stone Co, MO is the son of G. W Coker of Cape Giradeau Co, MO

Hi there,
It is my thought that Charles was the son of Joseph Coker who came to Greenville Co, SC from Burke Co, NC.
There were three brothers, Charles, William and Joseph living in the Globe settlement of Burke Co, NC starting in about 1778. Sometimes after 1790 sons of Charles, Leonard, William and possibly Charles left Burke Co with a number of other families from Burke for the southern oart of Greenville Co, SC.
The other families were the Hulsey, Matlock, Estes, Stone, Lee and Holland families. Possibly others.
It looks like Joseph Coker left Burke after 1800 for Greenville. Some of the children I believe of Joseph were William C. who married Jemina Crumpton, John F, Joseph Jr, Charles and possibly Frances who married Willis Augustus Davenport.
Some of the land records:

Annie Ratliff's father is Richard Ratliff born abt 1760 and died aft 1835. At this time I have his wife as Chow-a-you-cah Pathkiller, may have been the daughter of Chief Pathkiller.
Richard Ratilff does appear on the rolls as Cherokee.

I am also the gggranddaughter of john and annie ratliff. Have always heard that we are of indian heritage, but have no real proof. I know that my mother told me that my father,James Wesley Coker, son of John Vance Coker, received a leather at one time that he could claim land Oklahoma or recive a payment. He took the money. Our house burned in 1945 and all old pictures and other records were lost.
