Hi everyone:
Read the listing of Coker Donation/DNA Project and wonder how much blood one should be to develop markers for connecting DNA relatives?
My grandmother was a Coker in Oklahoma, but there are SO, SO many Cokers in the S.E. and all over that I feel it would be a waste of time and money.
Let me know something positive I can mull over.
Thanks!

Isom Coker was born in Indiana - not Oklahoma. On the 1920 and the 1930 census he gives his place of birth as Indiana - not Kentucky. He also gives his place of birth as Indiana on his marriage record to Cora George. I am still waiting for a copy of his marriage record to Mahala Smith. His death record says that he was born in Indiana. It also says his parents James and Rachel were born in Indiana. They were not in Florida. They were not even married yet when the 1860 census was taken in Florida. Isom lived most of his life in Jefferson Co. IN. He and his first wife Mahala lived in Carroll Co. KY for several years and then he moved back to Jefferson Co. IN. I have more information on the Cokers as well as who Rachel's parents were if you are interested.

The University of North Carolina's Southern Historical Collection includes papers of Robert Ervin Coker. Within those documents is a type-written abstract of records related to John HOLLOWAY (b. 1719) and Frances CHAMBLISS HOLLOWAY and their descendants. The abstract states that the data was obtained "from Lavinia Coker Rogers, credited to Mrs. Sarah McLean Coit, partly from an old Bible."
I am looking for the family Bible records from which the abstract was made. Any information on the whereabouts of this Bible or where I could obtain a copy would be greatly appreciated.
