First thing is almost no one's name is unique. You need to state a timeline, race, wives, whatever else you know. You start with your father, grandfather but leave out specifics on living people.
And remember info on any given document is only as good as the informant's knowledge.
Having said that...

This sould give you a start
there are abt 5 public ancestry.com trees and 1 private tree for these Coker's.
While these folks might help you you should do your own searches to verify info. You will find that not everyone has sources to back up their info. You will probably find some "cousins" along the way.
If you don't already have an ancestry.com paid subscription you should get one.
Best gift I have ever given myself. Has given me years of enjoyment.
I am not related.
Regards,
Connie

My primary source are the family records my 2nd cousin's mother (she was a Coker -- daughter of my grandfathers's brother). She has Millie listed as a daughter of Issac.
The circumstantial evidence strongly supports this -- most of Isaac Coker's children were born between 1790 and 1800. Burgess Cheek came to Elbert County the same time as Issac and his brothers -- the wedding date between Burgess & Millie is in the same time period.
Issac's father was Joseph Coker, who was married to Mildred Hendrick. Naming one their daughters "Millie" would appear to be very consistent with our family's naming traditions. I'm James Bradford Coker III, named for my grandfather who was son of Henry. Henry had a brother named James and a brother-in-law named Bradford.
Burgess & Millie move to Sumter County at the same time as my GG-grandfather and two of his brothers (John & William).
They all lived within a few miles of each other around Plains.
Henry (my GGG) had a daughter named Millie. Burgess & Millie had sons named Henry, Elisha and William (all names of Millie's brothers).
Finally, there are a number of Coker land records in Elbert and Sumter witnessed by Burgess Cheek.
The 1812 "Millie" may have been daughter of one of Henry's older brother's -- James or Elisha (a grandaughter of Issac).

Thank you so much for the reply. This has been an ongoing search for me, however this is a different Millie Coker - The Millie Coker (born 1820) I am searching info on is the mother of my great grandfather Dave C. Cheek and married Holland Burgess Cheek in 1851- I suspect two Millie's - two Burgesses. I am aware of the family buried in Sumter County. That Millie was born in 1795. I believe there is probably a missing generation with several first name variations. The Millie Coker born in 1795 could not be the same married in 1851. She would be 56 and past child bearing years. She is buried in the Cheek Family cemetery with most of her children - no Dave Cheek - also birth and death dates appear to be one generation behind.

Millie Coker -- wife of Burgess Cheek -- is the sister of my great-great-grand father Henry Coker. They were children of Isaac Coker & Nancy Daniel who moved to Elbert County, GA around 1790.
Mildred & Burgess Cheek, along with my GG-Grandfather and their brothers William Coker and John Coker moved to Plains, Sumter County, GA in 1842.
I have a list of their children and her burial site in Sumter County in my files. I will post as soon as I find it.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am looking for information on the family of Newton H. COKER, born 1836. He moved after the Civil War to Chattooga County from Catoosa County. His first wife was Amanda M. and he had the following children that I can verify through census records:
Name Year of Birth
Martha E. 1857
James R. 1860
Mary C. November 11, 1861
John F. 1866
Joseph M. 1868
Minnie E. 1873
I suspect the following children were born but I need to verify some how:
Jerush Adaline 1860 (would have been a twin of James R.)
Charles W. 1871-1872
Laura A. 1875-1876
Lucy E. 1877-1877
His first wife, Amanda, died in 1877.
He married his second wife, Eliza N. Todd, on June 1, 1879 in Chattooga County.
I believe that children born postwar would have been buried in Chattooga County. He lived the rest of his life in Trion.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Gerald D. Hodge, Jr.
Chesapeake, Virginia
