Now, Charlie Coker was a grandson of the Coker man I am looking for.
I am looking for an Alex/Alec/Alic/or something to the same effect.
I posted on another screen where I came across a Coker man from the northeast U.S. that was 'placed' by the government to Tenn. to help the Indians assimilate to farming and such. He was a wheelwright or a blacksmith. I can't recall. But I feel that his placement was at Shelby County Tenn which is Nashville (I think).
This would have ocurred around 1818-1825 at the latest.
Any, and I mean ANY info. or a note would be apreciated!
Merry holidays!
Alfreda Doonkeen

Greetings:
I don't know if we fit that bill, but I believe I am getting closer to our Coker people through the Tenn. Genealogy and the info put on the net.
My great interest is...a man came from the norht and eat of the U.S., he was a wheelwright/blacksmith, and was placed among the Indians in Tenn. to "help" the Indians assimilate to European ways.
I came across this information several, several years ago and now I don't know where I can find it! (In my house though!)
I am so positively sure that MY Coker connection came from the Coker man who was place in Tenn. around 1818-1832 or some time in that area.
If anyone knows of Cokers in Tenn. at this time, please-please, let me know!
We are at our brain stem ends!!! at trying to recall where I read this info..
Happy Holidays to ALL-and to ALL a good night!!

If I am not mistaking, Charlie Coker was the brother of Dave Coker about the turn of the century (last).
There seem to be so many Cokers in the Seminole and Creek Indians that I am wandering loosely trying to gifure it all out!
My grandmother (my mother-[Eula Narcomey] my g-mother-Maggie Coker)
Maggie Coker was the daugher of Dave Coker {I think}.
My big problem is who was the mother of 'Old Man London Coker'?
London was born about 1814 and died in 1907 in Oklahoma. Where did he come from? Who did he come from? Was he hatched? or did he have a mother?! Are there any stories tha can be handed down? Was he white? was he English? Did he assimilate with an Indian woman before the train of tears?!

Hello Jo:
You state you have a portion of the Bible that Cokers wrote in.
Could you scan the part you have and let the rest of us take a look and see what we can generate as leads?
I appreciate you sharing this info. Several years ago i was in Salt Lake City at the epi center of genealogy research and discovered there were so many Cokers who branched off from the area of Izard County Arkansas. That is in the N.W. portion of AR with the non-Indian population descending on the already migrating Indians to principally include the Cherokees.
Hope you can share that bible with us Sherlock Holmes people!
Have a great Holiday!

I am interested in information that might be in the wills you mentioned, particularly if there is anything regarding the disposition of slaves. I am researching an African American of mixed blood whose death certificate names Buck Coker as his father and Lucy Coker as his mother. The son of this union was born around 1840 and I am guessing that Lucy may have been owned by Buck Coker at the time.
Thanks in advance
