Gallant C. Coker, 1828 AL to abt 1908 Mississippi, has been the subject of study and speculation for many years. Apparently elusive in public record searches for quite some time, we have now documented Gallant C. Coker, with his third wife Tressie Ann and two of their children.
Recent research by Bill Hilton, descendant of Gallant and Sarah Coker (2nd wife), shows that there were three wives and families, not two as previously thought. This apparently new information may clear up some of the problem areas that have arisen and will hopefully help gather further insight into additional children and other details.
The emphasis below is on the third family. Details on earlier family members are fairly well known or that info can be provided and are not listed here. Thus far we have identified two of the children and hope to obtain further information on all the offspring (either 7 or 8) of Gallant and Tressie Ann as indicated in the 1900 and 1910 census.
Any additional information on the children of G. C. & T. A. Coker is gladly welcomed. Jones and Wayne counties of Mississippi are the primary known locations. The following listing contains some research notes and sources for the third family.

A bit more information I found: William Lawson Coker, born in Louisiana, ~1853, died in 1930. Married to Suzanna Gilliam Coker. I have complete records of William and Suzanna's children and so on. I can't find any information on William Lawson (who went by Lawson) or his ancestors.
A family story is that Lawson's father moved to Louisiana from TN. And that Lawson's father died when he was very young, and he was raised by someone else there (no idea where in LA). After he married Suzanna, he and a brother moved to Texas, sometime after 1870. Lawson and Suzanna settled in Hopkins County and had several children: Ed, Adolphus (Doff), Phillip, Bill, Lawson F., and Bonnie. Ed's son Warner L Coker is my grandfather.
Any information on William Lawson Coker--birthplace or father--would help a lot!

Does anyone have any information on Cokers in Hopkins County, Texas, prior to 1900? I have this line traced so far:
Warner L. Coker, b. 1904
Ed Coker, b. 1875, d. 1933
William L. Coker, b. 1853 (listed on tombstone)--married to Suzanna/Suzie/Anna Gilliam
Census records show that Ed's father William was born in LA. I did find a William Coker in Sabine Parish, son of Emery Coker of Alabama. However, the birth date of this William is 1856 or 1857.
Does anyone know if my William Coker here might be the William Coker of the Emery Coker line from Sabine, LA?
Thank you.

I will have to figure this one out. There are so many Cokers with the same name. My ggg Aunt Arminta Fancher Coker died in childbirth in 1849 in Osage Arkansas and had two children, a girl and a boy - neither of which were named Arminta. Then her husband married again. I have all kinds of records on this family, but will have to study them to make sure I am giving you the right information. I am also a Coker, decended from Buck Coker through his daughter Jane Coker Sneed, through their daughter Elizabeth Sneed Fancher - who was my gg grandmother.

Would you have any information on Little Joe ("Cherokee" Joe) Coker, son of Joseph Dempsy Coker? He was my GGGgrandfather... His daughter, Arminta is my GG Grandmother. He passed away ab 1854. His wife's name was Mary. Do you have any records or information on this part of family? I have not been able to find Arminta on the next census in 1860. My grandmother told me Arminta had married a man name Reynolds or Randels or Runnels..but am unable to locate her till years later. (My great Grandmother Mae (May) was her daughter. Arminta didn't show back up till years later under the last name of Flippo...on a census. My grandmother told me she had married after the Reynolds.. a man ..last name Falls...then when he died, she married Flippo...
I am trying to track birth records, etc.. anyone have any info after the 1850 census? like, who did Little Joe's widow Mary end up marrying after he died?, etc.. thanks!
