Hello list,
Some data obtained from the www.galegroup.com; an archives of various
databases.
From "Labor Advocate", Feb. 04, 1899; issue 5; Col B. (An Alabama
newspaper - Birmingham)
"Aunt Amy Coker died at Cedar Bluff. She was 104 years of age. She had
lived at Cedar Bluff fifty years."
From "Labor Advocate", September 11, 1897; Issue 37; Col A.
"Mrs. Thomas Coker and 9-year-old son, of Topeka, Kan., were struck and
instantly killed by a westbound Santa Fe train while crossing a bridge
east of Cedar Junction."
From "Alabama State Journal", (Montgomery, AL) April 16, 1875; Issue
15, Col D.
"The grand jury of Shelby have found true bills against James Baxley and
Jasper Coker, whites, and McAfee, negro, charged with the Waxahatchie
bridge disaster, on the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad, last September."
Hope this helps someone; and if you know who they are please share.
Best,
Beth Gay

Can anyone help me..I am looking for information on the Old Club LeRue in Bogalusa,LA...My ancestors were involved with it and I would love to find any information..
One was Bill Brewton who was apparently a former boxer. He worked with Nick Sansone..Bill's mother was Nancy Lottie Coker.

Just a hint about the name Zeno/Jeno......I have an ancestor (not Coker), whose given name was Zenas (a Biblical name). I have found that name recorded with at least 12 different spellings! Zeno and Jeno are two of those spellings.....some others are Zenos, Zenith, Jenos, Senas, Senos, Senis AND Lewis (but I think that was the transcriber's interpretation, not the actual spelling on the original document).
Perhaps this will help you. Good luck in your search!
Another Coker descendant in Georgia

I am researching the Coker Family, mostly in MS. I am very confused. My great grandfather was John william Coker married Mary Elizabeth Tolar. Their daughter Nancy Tolar was married to my grandfather Brewton. I found that John William father was named Zeno Jeno Coker about 1822. Pink Forest...1896
Dewitt C.....1898
This is my grandmother

Hello everyone,
Don't forget to recruit people for the Coker DNA project. If you don't
have a male Coker you can donate funds for testing.
Who is the John Coker in Coweta County, Georgia in the 1830 census?

Hello: I have tried for many years as have several people in my line to locate and fond out who our Dicey Coker belonged to. By now, we assume she may have been an orphan ans no line except that of Leonard Coker of Marion/Boone Co AR lines up right. We thing Dicey may have been a nickname for the original name. All we know is that Dicy (or Dicey as is listed on the marriage index between her an the man in my familys seh married.) Our family has always heard she may have been of Indian heritage. I see where many people out there have researched this Leonard. No one seems to know who the mothers of all of his children were however. Just that he had been married to Molly Lee and mother was Nancy Lee.
My ? is could my Dicey ahve been his child and could she have had an Indian mother or part Indian mother? My great grandmother is the grandaughter of this woman, and she definetly looked part Indian.
Also if this line does turn out to be mine, I wonder about this Lee line, as another Lee also married into another branch of my family and I am most interested in them too!

I have about decided that my James Washington Coker was adopted and no one knew about it to write it down. (Kidding)I know he was born in South Carolina, according to all the census records, in 1800/1801, dependending on when the census was taken as I have no month of birth. But he was in Washington County, Alabama in 1830. In Greene County, Mississippi in 1840, 1841 and 1845. In 1850, James was in Choctaw County, Alabama. ( I understandd that Washing Co and Choctaw Co changed bounderies several times.....starting out as Indian lands, so the family may or may not have moved.) He is not listed in the 1860 census, only his widow and some children, in Bowie County, Texas.
He married Amelia Dunbar (Milly) February 8, 1827 in Washington County, Alabama. Milly's parents and grand parents were living there at that time, also. Their children were Young Jackson, Henry D., Matilda, William S., and Fremont (? as spelling on image is not clear.) Amelia is in Bowie county with two young children, probably grandchildren, or another two that were born between 1850 and 1860, before James W. died. As I said, the image is unclear, but it looks like a boy aged 10, W.F., and a girl aged 8, M. B.
I've been reading the Coker archives for the past several days, and this one says James Washington belongs to the Thomas/Margaret Jones family; another says he's the s/o Dempsy; ;another says he belongs to Peyton. Maybe he was just adopted somewhere along the line! Or put into the government protection program??? Does anyone know just who and where he came from???
