Addendum to 1870 census information. Living close to Dock P. Coker in
the above census were the following households.

Joseph Coker, age 39 and Martha, age 36 appear to be the Joseph Coker
and Martha Attaway who married in Carrol County, Georgia in 1855.
Joseph, age 39 and James Coker, age 24 both appear to be sons of
Garlington Coker and Martha Babb. Garlington Coker, age 60, born in
South Carolina is enumerated in the 1850 census in Carroll county,
Georgia and Joseph, age 18, born in Georgia and James, age 5, born in
Georgia are among the children in his household.
Does anyone have addtional information on these familes? Where were
Joseph and James Coker in the 1860 census.
Are Garlington Coker and William C. Coker related?

I have not look at this family in a while. But if I remember correctly this family moved to California with Rueben Coker's children. I believe you can find them in the 1860 census. But I do not have any information on Henry Coker prior to 1850.

Long ago I received information from Edgar Stephens, now deceased lawyer in
Olive Branch MS, pertaining to William and Jamima Coker of Bibb. The
information came to him from Midge Bynum Coker, P. O. Box 1, Marquez, TX
77865. He dated her letter 29 May 1984. She was wondering if her William
could be William B. of the Thomas of Bibb will. She gave the following:
William born ca 1790, NC and Jemima b ca 1797 SC. Their children: James J.
b.1818 SC, Lucinda b.1821 SC, Berry b. ca 1820 AL, Perry b. ca 1827 AL,
Emery b.ca 1827 AL, Joseph b. ca 1832 AL, Leonard b. ca 1834 AL, William b.
ca 1837 AL Richard b. ca 1839 AL. She added possibly: Elizabeth b. ca 1820
AL married Enoch Smith 14 Jan. 1843 #951 on 1850 census, Frances (Elnora
Jane) b.1829 married John T. Smelly 7 Dec. 1844 - wit to Sarah Coker
will.(Thomas of Bibb's wife), Nancy married John Valentine Corley 19 May
1850 #959 on 1850 census (John wit. same Sarah's will, Sarah - she gave no
info on her, and Lynn possibly male - no info further on him (I'm betting he
and Leonard may have been same person). She said she knew that William and
Jamima had 14children. She said she had located the family in Bibb in 1830
and 1850 but had been unable to find them in 1840.
The following is my research: Direct Index to Conveyances of Real Estate -
Grantor Jemima and William C. Coker Jared Coal Co. 30 April 1853 Bk.G p.506.
Tract Book: Wm. C. and Jemima Coker E 1/2 of NW 1/4 Sec. 30 Twp 23 R. 12 E
and NE 1/4 of SE 1/4 Sec. 25 Twp 23 R 11 E. Possibly these sales indicated
William and Jemima's removal from Bibb Co.
In the 1980's, I'm sure, I wrote myself the following observations and
conclusions on this family.( I recall I wrote to Mrs. Midge Coker my
research pertaining to the land sales and information which follows. I never
received any response from her.) I know of no proof that the 1830 Wm. b.
1790-1800 is same Wm. as the Wm. #961 with wife Jemima found on the 1850
census for Bibb. At this point, I will not attempt to associate Wm. of Bibb
1830 with the Thomas Coker family of Bibb or with Wm. and Jemima 1850. The
one tie I see is ages of Wm. & Jemima 1850 tallying with Wm. p. 170 on 1830.
If Wms are the same then question becomes where was this family in 1840?
Many possible answers - among them - they simply missed 1840 census. All
this remains to be explored. There do seem to be some slim ties between Wm.
& Jemima 1850 and Thomas of Bibb family. Thomas, son of Thomas of Bibb, who
died in Meriwether Co., GA in 1836 had a son, William and a daughter,
Jemima. Without knowing more of Mrs. Midge Coker's research and going
strictly by what I have here, it appears the only children which definitely
belonged to Wm. and Jemima are the 5 listed on the 1850 census: 1. Emery, 2.
Joseph, 3. Leonard, 4. William and 5. Richard. She lists James J., Berry,
Lucinda and Perry as definite children of this family, however, Edgar
Stephens says Lucinda belonged to Robert and Sarah Miers Coker (His
forebears). I can see where proximity causes her to include Elizabeth and
Nancy as possible children. She says she knows there were 14 children.
Husbands of 2 of her possible children did witness Sarah Clark Coker's will.
Much work must be done on these Williams before intelligent suppositions may
be made let alone the discovery of truth. End of my long note to myself.
Since I never had a response from this woman I have to assume she was no
longer interested when she found out he was William C. and not William B.
Elizabeth

Well Beth, I just came in and saw your posting. I do know some things and
some things 2nd hand about William and Jemima. I promise I will sit down
later and tell you all I know. For starters I know he was William C. Coker.
I found him and Jemima in the Grantee/Grantor Bibb ledger long ago.

Good morning,
I need some assistance. Trying to find William Coker and Jemima in the
1840 census. This couple should be in Bibb County, Alabama but cannot
locate them using the Ancestry search feature. Ages in 1840 should be
about 50 for William and about 43 for Jemima.
He is not the William Coker in Dallas County, Alabama in 1840. There are
2 Williams's in Dallas in 1840, who are these people?
Best regards,
Beth Gay

Hello Coker researchers,
I need some information on D. P. Coker who married Telitha G. Cobb on 21
Jan 1850 in Shelby County. Does anyone have additional information on
this couple? The name Dock Perry comes to mind, but if I had something
on him the record is now buried in my stack of papers or the cat ate it
or something.
Best regards,

William Henry died in 1937 in Hunt County. Below is obit that was printed in the Greenville (TX) Evening Banner 1 March 1937.
Services Held for W. H. Coker
Final rites were observed Sunday afternoon for W. H. Coker, well known Hunt Co. Farmer of the Jacobia community wh died at his home Saturday night. Services were held at the Jacobia Baptits church, with Rev. Lindsey of McKinney officiating, and burial was in the cemetery nearby.
Mr. Coker's death followed an illness of pneumonia of several days duration.
For more than twenty years Mr. Coker had been a resident of the Jacobia community and was one of the most progressive and influential citizens of that section of the county. He was known by many citizens thorughout this section and admired and respected by them all.
He is survived by his wife and five children, James Coker, Sam Coker, Mrs. Minnie Jernigan, Mrs. Frances Childress and Mrs. Joan O'Neal.
Great grandmother, Roberta (Butts) Coker, lived many years longer. I think she died in Dallas, but don't know the date.
I found William "Henry" and Roberta on the 1910 census for Etowah County Alabama with young family. According to family history, William Henry's mother was a Sims. His father may have been named either Jim or Will.
According to census records, there quite a few Coker families living accross NE Alababa in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Since I can't locate him on the 1900 census, I'm sort of at a brick wall.
Thanks,
Marc Coker

DIED
Mr. N. G. Coker died Wednesday morning at his residence about two miles north of town and was laid to rest in this city Wednesday afternoon. He was in town Tuesday afternoon and appeared well and hearty, but was taken violently ill shortly after arriving at his home and died during the early morning. He leaves a widow and six small children to mourn his death.
Mr. Coker was a good citizen and for many years has been a member and preacher in the Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of American and has been a member of this order for about fourteen months and carried a policy of insurance in this order to the amount of $1,500.00 which amount will soon be paid by this noble order to his widow, the beneficiary named in this policy. Mr. Coker was a very enthusiastic member of the M. W. A.

Hello,
My name is Marc Coker, and I'm new to this board. I've done lots of genealogy over the years but very little on my Coker line. My great grandfather was William "Henry" Coker. He was born in Alabama about 1886. He married young to Roberta (or Roberty) Butts who was from Blount County Alabama. Henry and Roberta were living in Etowah County Alabama in 1910. They eventually came to Hunt Co., Texas.
Is anyone researching Cokers of Alabama?
Thanks,
Marc Coker

Hi,
This a correction on my Dickeson connect, it was one of my Amyet line that married into the Dickeson family not my Coker line, although I have discovered this COKER family may have been in MS before Statehood, during Territory period.
Also, I now believe mine missing ancestor was a C {CEE} B {Bee} C B not SEA BEE as in SEABORN.
