Hello list,
I am working on the Coker site at WeRelate. If anyone is interested in
having one giant site for the Coker family in the U. S., please read the
tutorials for WeRelate. I have setup some shared research pages. If you
can add your families to the shared pages that would be great. On the
site we can have discussions which would be under Robert and Elizabeth
Coker family under Coker in Georgia for example. I am still learning the
site myself so I can use assistance.
I am going to attempt to upload my gedcom which is my Coker research file.
If you are interested please start with the My Relate tutorial and
create an account so if you do edit pages you can leave your signature.
Somewhere I need to list my rules of the road but not sure where for
editing people and adding people. Of course if I have enough people
participating we could discuss whether to leave an edit or not, but
there are certain items that am not very tolerant of. Bodie is not a
creditable source. Neither is WFT # or gedcom # so and so and entering
information without any source is not acceptable. It would be very
helpful if you cite a personal letter, etc. that you upload a copy of
the same. It is very difficult for one to judge evidence without a copy
of the evidence cited.
You can cite a gedcom if you also cite the original source information,
another words what record did they get the information from. You will
also find in my gedcom sources for marriage records listed on Ancestry
that I do not have the original record on. That is not ideal, but the
best that I can do for now. If the majority of the participants consider
my source invalid, I will remove the data. Hopefully someone will have
a copy and contribute or we will obtain a copy in the future. I cannot
afford to obtain copies of all original sources, but I do have many
which I will upload when time permits and when I type the data in for
the individuals.
I have dial-up so uploading images will be a gradual process. I will
concentrate on my original data, so if anyone has Ancestry and the super
fast Internet service, it would be great if you could edit the census
page and upload it. The engineer for this site only shows the page
portion relevant to the family cited. There is a limitation on the size
of an image, 150 kb in size and contains no more than 12,000,000 pixels.
Read the copyright section for WeRelate.
Best regards,
Beth G.

Hi List,
I have created a shared research page in WeRelate: Coker in United
States. I have not added any data. My user name on site is Beth. If you
add Coker data to WeRelate consider adding to this shared research page.
Follow the instructions on site; there are instructions for further
subdividing the page into Coker of Texas etc.
Best regards,

It looks like a great idea, but could you please provide a link to subscribe to the list? Thanks!

Thanks for the guidance. I can see where this could be a great
sourcing aid, but looks like lots of work to get started. It should
help to correct lots of mis-information out there on the Web. Most
of the mis-information cannot be corrected and stays there
forever. I will work with Wiki and see what I can do. I haven't
signed on yet. Is this Indiana Library going to provide more
information than we have had access to on the Web?

Is their anyone on this list researching the above family? Robert Coker
was born about 1796 in South Carolina. Most of his children moved to
Comanche County, Texas. Seeking information about his possible daughter
Martha who married Claiborn Jackson. Trying to find one of their
children who lived long enough to have a death certificate which named
Martha Coker as their mother.
