I reviewed some messages regarding above by Dwight and Bob. I noted that
John and Annie are believed to have a son named Mansel. I don't have any
data on this family, just reading the posted messages.
This is not a common name.
Could Robert Coker born about 1796 in South Carolina who married
Elizabeth [Lake?] be a brother of this John Coker? This Robert is also
believed to have a son named Mansel Coker.
Below is a FGS for Robert Coker. I have more information, but still
working on entering my data. I also have sources but for brevity only
printing the names.

Hello list,
I am entering info on the Robert Coker family of Walton Co, Ga., Murray
Co., Ga. and Comanche Co., Texas.
Does anyone have information on Joel Coker, believed to be son of Robert
Coker?
Also does someone have documentation that Robert's wife Elizabeth was a
Lake? I cannot find a marriage record, is this info from a family Bible,
family tradition or a will etc.? There was an Elisha Lake living near
Robert Coker in Walton County, Georgia but I have not had the time to
research Elisha Lake.
Thanks,
Beth Gay

I don't know how to start the entry either, but am interested in helping
with input. If I understand it things that aren't documented in a wiki
can be edited and thus what results in the entry should be by agreement
good information.

Shiela,
Just read your letter regarding your Father. He must have been a wonderful man. I think you should write a book of stories about him, and pass it along to the next generations of the Cokers in your family. I think that while reading your letter, I could picture him doing these things...and if I can, and not being a relative...then you know with photographs the memories will be relived in the ones that knew him...but also a bit of history will travel thru your family.

Coker researchers,
I remember not long ago that Stephen Coker requested help with a web
page. I have not learned HTML coding so not much help.
I thought it would be fun if someone could start a WIKI site for the
Coker family. Don't have a clue how to do it.
I am willing to contribute copies of all of my Coker documents to a site
that encourages the use of sources and written proofs of relationships.
I will not contribute them to a site that does not show sources and
proofs if needed.
With the list administrator's permission, perhaps we could have a roll
call. Also interested in which genealogy program you use and why? Reply
off list with that one.
Best regards,
Beth Gay

Today is the 17 year anniversary of the death of Burguress Lloyd Coker.
In Loving Memory
Of
BURGURESS LLOYD COKER
April 13, 1937-May 9, 1990
My Daddy was an incredible man and I would like to share a little bit about him and some of his many accomplishments with everyone.
He was born into a large family (4 brothers and 2 sisters) in the small farming town of Henderson, Texas. He learned to help in the fields at an early age. I still remember driving past a large cotton crop one time and Daddy saying he picked cotton at the age of four. He left home and joined the army as a teenager because, "times were tough and I was just another mouth to feed". After the army he worked many jobs but settled into the construction business as an ironworker. He was able to brag that he'd helped build the Houston Astrodome and some of the first rides at Astroworld. Sometimes when we went downtown to ride in a parade he would point out some of the gorgeous buildings and churches he'd helped to build.
He participated in trail riding as well as a horse-riding group called the Harris County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. As a trail rider, he rode on hundreds of organized trail rides and was often designated as one of the scouts. The Harris County Sheriff's Mounted Posse competed in relay races against other organized riding groups as well as performing specialized riding drills, many including lit torches and riding at high speeds in patterns such as the figure eight or wagon wheel. Daddy rode with the HCSMP every year for the Pony Express Ride, which is ridden relay style from Houston to Austin. This ride is organized every year to deliver an invitation to the governor of Texas to attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Eventually the HCSMP changed their name to Harris County Sheriff's Mounted Reserves and to be a member you had to at least be a reserve with the sheriff's department.
Daddy started his career with Harris County Sheriff's Department in 1976. He worked in the jail, then graduated from the academy and became a patrolman. Later, he completed the Master Patrolman course, which allowed him to train new deputies out on patrol. He ended his career as a Detective. His law enforcement days were filled with specialized courses taken all over the state of Texas from Houston to the Rio Grande and he even took a class with the FBI in Quantico, VA. He received many certificates of appreciation from groups such as the Spina Bifida Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He won many awards such as Deputy of the Year and a Dick Tracy Award. He also participated in golf tournaments for charitable organizations such as the Make a Wish Foundation.
He was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Past Worshipful Master of Mt. Houston Lodge #1359 AF & AM. His love and devotion inspired numerous friends and other deputies to petition the lodge. He also served as a Past Worthy Patron (twice) for Mt. Houston Chapter #1034 OES. He was on the board of the Mt. Houston #310 ORG before he even became a member of the Masonic fraternity and assisted the girls with transportation to Grand Assembly every summer.
There are so many things I would love to relate about Daddy, but I have decided to stop here since this is simply a loving reminder of him and his life and not a novel. Thank you for allowing me to share a small portion of his life with you.
