Claiborn Coker came to Morgan County, Illinois in 1823. He and his brother Dennis Coker. Be careful, because Dennis had a son named Claiborn who was murdered in Jacksonville Morgan County, IL. Several people have associated this with his uncle Claiborn, but it is not. By the way, Claiborn had a son named Dennis! Claiborn Coker is my gggfather. His son was Sylvester Coker, then Cyrus Fletcher Coker, then Brock Mayfield Coker, then Raymond Ford Coker, then me.
I have extensive research on the Cokers, and if you would like to email me, maybe I could help.

Ditto. I am looking for confirmation that one of the children was Dudley
or Stanford Coker---who shows up in a Turnbo story at his death.

Hi Coker cousins
I am a Coker descendant through Warren Coker, half-brother to William 'Buck' Coker. They were the sons of Charles Coker and Judith Moore of Fluvanna, VA. if my info is correct. But do you know who was the father of Charles Coker? I would appreciate any historical info that you have on him. And be happy to share what I have, however I have no original documents (copies) for conformation of my data.

Hi Deborah, Dicey Coker was my great great grandmother. She married John L
Goates 25 Mar1852 in Scottsville, Pope Co, AR and they had three children:
Alexander Hamilton Goates born 1856, Andrew Jackson Goates 1857 and Susan
Elizabeth Goates 3 Dec 1858 all in Scottsville, Pope, AR. I will send you a
PDF file on what I have if you wish. Susan Elizabeth Goates married Thomas
D Osborne 30 Dec 1875 and they later moved to Idaho, where family still
lives. I have been to her gravesite which is in Orting WA and her husband
went back to ID where he died 6 months later. I live in Oregon.
Dicey's father was Leonard Coker, and Susan named her first son Leonard (he
died with a childhood disease at about age 2.)
Do not have her mother's name - and I do not have any info on Indian blood.
I also saw her named spelled LaDicia in a printed article about twenty years
ago - I do not know where now.......I was not good at saving sources then -
but I learned. John L Goates first wife was Frances Eubanks and they had
eight children - so Dicey had a handful when she first married
him.....imagine the work involved!! Of course the oldest were out of the
house by then.
By the way, if you are related to John L Goates, I have the paperwork on
settling his probate, and such - a bundle. Also a picture, a tintype, not
real good but you can sure tell what he looked like. Also if Susan is
related, I have several pictures of her. Let me know what you want and I
will gladly share. Have been to Pope Co and visited the Goates cemetery and
the old Goates cabin on a mountain called Goates Mountain - where they
believe Dicey is buried - there are two graves, but no markers. There are
no markers at the Goates cemetery either for two wives - ( he had three
wives) and are buried on either side of John. John does have a stone.
Family members took me there, told me a lot of history and also took me to
the mountain place and showed me where two graves are. The lady lives there
and her family all their lives. I met a lot of family there, they had a
reunion in 1984, I have not been back.

I am searching for anyone who knew info on Dicy/Dicey possibly even called Deca Coker.
She lived in or near Pope County Arkansas. There was a person who even called her LaDicia, but, so far no proof this was her exact name either. She was born abt 1834 in either TN or AR. Dicey is how itas spelt on her marriage in Pope Co records. She married John L Goats, mispelt on marriage rec. as Goals in 1852.
Her direct desc. were always told she was Indian. Even my gr aunt was one of these told. This woman was her grandmother. Help appreciated, I keep running into a dead end.

Thank you sooo much for posting the link to the home of heroes web site! I am 1st cousin once removed to Ronald Coker. I had an aweful black and white copy of the same information that I had received from the Knight Museum in Alliance, Nebraska but I was able to download a full color (and much clearer) version of everything from the site. I didn't know that site existed. I will be searching it for other people. Thanks again!
