Now I am confused!!!!
I descend from the Thomas Coker from the New Providence Area of Darlington Co., SC. Through his son Caleb Coker and Nancy McLendon thru their son James Coker and Deliah Hudson; Jame & Deliah's daughter Sarah Elizabeth Coker married my gg-grandfather Abner A. Chapman. I show the above Thomas Coker to be a son of Caleb Coker of Surry Co., NC.
If I read this correctly I am missing a Thomas or Two. Can someone help correct my understanding of this?

I hope that perhaps this information will help you. I don't know where I
got it but I think that it was written by a descendant of Caleb Coker who
moved from NC to Society Hill, S. C. He married Hannah Ann Lide. Their son
James Lide Coker was the founder of Coker College in Hartsville. But, back
to Caleb, Caleb was the son of Thomas Coker and Sarah Coker. Thomas died
when Caleb and brothers Thomas and James were minors. Caleb was placed
under the tutalge of Mary Feeling (can't be sure of last name). James was
placed with Dorothy Ingram with the election to leave at age 18. He like
Caleb was to be taught to read, write and cast accounts and to be fully
clothed until age 21 should he elect to remain with her until he became of
age. By 1694, Sarah Coker married a Mr. Wyatt. It seems that James did not
get along with his guardian and had several others before age 21. There is
no more about Calib in Va. Calib had a godfather Calib Lyon , hence the
name Calib--named in a law suit between Calib Coker and Daniel Diskins,
husband of the widow of Calib Lyon. It is believed that Calib left around
age 21 after completing his term of service with Mrs. Feeling. It is
believed that Calib Coker of Edgemore county, NC, whose will was recorded in
1745 (could be 1746 or 8 ) is the same Calib as he had a son named Thomas,
another named James and a daughter, Sarah. Several deeds, etc. name Spier
and Coker. James Spier is thought to have married Caleb's daughter,
Elizabeth, before 1760. Thomas Coker,. oldest s/o Caleb moved to Mars
Bluff, SC. Thomas Jr moved to Society Hill, SC. His son Thomas Jr. served
under Francis Marion and moved on to the region of New Providence near
Society Hill, SC. There are records that show three children, Thomas III,
Pricilla and Caleb (the first Caleb in SC) Caleb son Caleb Jr. was the one
who married Hannah Lidr/ The article is very hard to read and has no
author's name. If this information is of interest to you I will try to read
it more carefully and in more detail. I have been researching Cokers in SC
for some 50 years. Mary Frances Heriot Coker

Caleb Coker was born before 1700, probably in VA. The best consensus has
William Coker and Mary Cartwright as his parents. Why, beacause the father
of Mary Cartwright was named Caleb.
Caleb Coker's wife was Mary, maidan name unknown. James Speir who was one
of the executors of Caleb's will was married to Caleb's daughter Elizabeth.
Caleb's Son Richard, who died young, was married to a Speir who was either a
niece or cousin of James Speir.

Joseph Coker's Will dated 20March1792 Laurens Co. SC. mentions his wife,
Mary and sons Drury, Calvin, Thomas & John (youngest). Mary is left the estate
and her sons are left a horse, cow and calf, etc. Why.....because they were
too young, yet to inherit the plantation.
Elbert Co. Ga Will Book C-1, page 202-2/22/1805. Will of Chas (x) Gary.
Leg: Friend Milley Coker: natural dau Cassandry Coker. Ex. Friend Drury Coker
& bro David Garey. Wit. John Coker, Wm Gary, John Armstrong. ( I don't have
the image of this will and don't know if this is all there is to it., this
info came from an index of Wills in Elbert Co. Ga.
I have always suspected that this Milley Coker is the widow of Joseph, Sr d.
1774 in Chatham Co. N.C.
Milley Coker is found on tax records with Joseph Coker in 1781 Surry Co. NC.
Joseph Coker, Sr and Milly (Mildred) had sons, Issac (my direct line) Jacob,
Malachi, and Abraham, as we know were indentured in Chatham Co. and I
suspect that Joseph Coker (1792) is their older brother who was too old to be
indentured at the time.
Drury and John would be the grandsons to Milly Coker, widow to Joseph, Sr.
After their father's death, perhaps they lived with grandmother.
Joseph Coker, Jr' s Will (1792) does not mention a daughter, not to confuse
Milley as the sister to John and Drury.
Does anyone know if Calvin, Drury, Thomas and John had proven siblings???who
were older?? or if they had sisters.

Thanks for your reply. Would like to share. I have handwritten will of Drury and of Charles Gary that mentions Mary MillyCoker. Signed by John and Drury Coker brothers of Mary. Mary migrated to Montgomery Co NC by 1786. I am trying to find where she was living when the will was probated in 1806. SC Archives does not have this info. None of my direct Coker line migrated to Mo as far as I know. Some migrated to Ga. and NC. I am trying to find info abt Ephraim Coker living near Milly Mary in Montgomery.
