Teresa,
Melissa is my 2nd greatgrandmother. I have some info on the Gazzaways and the Cokers that my grandmother left behind. I have some Civil War documents, too.
My family comes from the Huntsville, AL area. The Coker side came from the Dalton, GA area and Laurens, SC prior to that.
It looks like we are related.
If you want to exchange email info, I can send you some of this stuff. I will scan the picture of the Coker family with Melissa in it to you. I think you'll enjoy it.
My email is amesp444(a)earthlink.net
Thanks,
Alison

I am searching for information about this couple and their family. I have them both being born around 1880 but don't have a death for them. I'm pretty sure they were in the Turbeville, Clarendon County, SC area and had sons named Friendly, Woodrow, Decator and Dargan. They had daughters too but I don't know their names. Any help would be appreciated.

Unk Coker may have died (possibly in Oregon) prior to 1865. Deborah remarried in Lebanon Oregon in 1865 - John T. Stewart. 1870 census shows Deborah married to J. T. Stewart and the two children. Mary Coker was my ggrandmother. No family history on her father "Coker" at all. Any info apprecited.
Elizabeth Coker married Samuel C. Carter. When was Elizabeth born and
what were her parents names? I find a daughter listed as Millie Carter,
but family insists they had a daughter Mary Emeline who married James
Edward Parker. Can you help with this?
Thanks

What I have have been trying to say is that the death certificate is official record. Unless the birth certificate can be found there is no other record the can over power the death certificate. No family member can just say that it is wrong they must have physical proof. There is to much misinformation circulating, we have to have proof if its available.

Thanks for the death cert info. I think the birth year is incorrect, but death date is correct. Thanks for the cert number. Burial site for Mattie Robbins Coker has been found in Shady Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc County, MS.

Thanks again. Do you have an FTM or a GEDCOM file on the Coker family that you would be willing to share with the grandson of Peyton? I have located some census records back to Robert's family in 1850 but lose the track beyond that.
David on the Pontotoc County message board found for me the burial site for Mattie Robbins Coker, b.9/15/1870-d.12/02/1943. She is buried at Shady Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc County. The step-grandson who is looking for her burial site went into the Navy in (probably summer) 1943 and was likely in a combat zone in the South Pacific when she died.
I later found their listing in the Union County marriage records. Don't know how I missed it earlier.

The birth date for Peyton C. Coker is correct according to
hand written notes from James T. Coker, father of Peyton.
The death is from the marker.
