In 1860, Samuel would have been 14 and probably living with his parents, so
if we could find James and Ellen Coker, we could probably find Sam. They were
only 38 years old in the 1850 census, so probably still alive in 1860. Since
Sam married in Haywood County, TN, I thought maybe his family may have moved
there from Madison Co, TN, but I cannot find them in Haywood County. My
thoughts as to the 1870 census is that maybe he and Letha were in transit and were
not counted in either Haywood or Poinsett County, AR. Does that make sense?
Just a thought.
Could really use some help on these things, if anyone has any answers please
reply.
On the 1850 Madison County, Florida Census in house 360 is Ann Coker 60 yrs
old as head of the household with son(grandson) McNeil Coker 17 and
daughter(granddaughter) Elvina Coker 14. On the same census is Jonathan Coker and family
in household 469.
By the 1860 this family is in Lafayette County, Florida. (I don't think they
moved, just another county was formed.
House 22 A.D.Coker 27 male born in Florida, wife Patience(Pridgeon)Coker 25
with children Henretta 9 and Daniel 4
House 23 Nancy Coker 25 children Mary and Jame 6, also Annah Coker 75, I
think this is Ann from Madison Co. 1850
House 25 Jonathan Coker 32 born Georga, wife Mary S. (Hicks) Coker with
children Silas 11, George W. 9, Martha A. 7, John 5, Mary S. 3 and Laura 1
Now we think A(Arthur) D. and Jonathan were brothers and that Ann was their
mother.
On the 1870 Lafayette County Census, after the Civil War, in household 133
Jonathan is shown with the wife and children from the 1860 census plus Daniel
13 and Sarah 17. We think Daniel and Sarah were children of A. D. Coker.
We know that A. D. Coker died on his way home from the civil war. Family
lore has it that Patience Pridgeon went back to the general area after the civil
war.
We would like to know what happen to Daniel, Henretta and Sarah, plus the
household of Nancy Coker on the 1860 census. Another puzzle is the 2 children in
the house with Ann on the 1850 McNeil and Elvina.
If anyone can answer any of these questions, it certainly will be
appreciated.
Also I have a copy of the early marriages for Madison Co, Fl and Taylor Co,
Fl, for the Coker Family if someone would like a lookup.
We feel like some of this family must have gone West and hoping someone has
ties so some of these people can be traced.
Thanks
Ann
I have been trying to proof the Samuel Jefferson Coker, S. J. Coker, Samuel B Coker all have the same info. There are three different view of Data. I am trying to show through the facts/proof that they are the same or one or two or three are all are different. There is a lot of info that is passed out without proof not even a census quote. I just happened to land on this Individual in my database and started collecting the Proof. I have what you have. but for all three????

What Coker are you looking for? The Samuel J. Coker who lived in Poinsett County, Ark was born in TN to James and Ellen Coker. I am unsure of his middle name. All the paper I have only has Sam Coker on it. I did find his marriage to first wife, Lethia Albright , on the Haywood County, TN website. He married a second time to Olie (Olivia) Reed, though I have not found any marriage record. Family history says she was a very young woman and she died three weeks after their only child was born, Icie. He did not have a third wife. He and first wife had 8 children, four boys and four girls. Only the one child by second wife. Sam was born Sept. 20, 1846 and died Apr. 19, 1916. Letha died in 1888.

Message Board Post:
I am searching for the family of my Great Grandmother Mary Jane Coker Lee. She was born in 1850 in Georgia and died in 1944 in Stephens Co., Ga. She is burried beside her husband Isaac Lee at Eastonollee Baptist Church in Stephens Co., GA.
I have a newspaper clipping anoucing Her and Isaac's marriage in the Kowee Courior in Oconee Co., SC wich is just accross the river from the Stephens/Franklin Co area in Ga. the listing states the following:
Married on the 27th of February, 1879 at the residence of the bride, by Rev. Washington Smith, Mr. Isaac Lee to Miss Jane Koker both of Oconee County.
I have them traced so far from 1900 to 1930. I am working on the earlier censuses. I have Isaac in the home with his parents but I cannot find Jane anywere......I have no clue as to who her parents were. There was an Uncle (I think) that remembered as a small child going with Jane to the train station in Toccoa to meet her sister. He remembered thiking they were mad at each other because they were crying and beating each other on the back, But he dose not remember her name and that was the only time any one from her family was ever seen that we know of, The uncle said that he remembered hearing that Jane's sister had traveled all the way from Copper Hill Tenn. There is also a family legend that Isaac got ran out of Gumlog (?) and Jane had to chose between him and her family. She chose him and never spoke of her family again.
Isaac and Jane's children were, MINNIE, LUTHER ALONZO, ESSIE, BESSIE, and GARNETT.
Isaac and Jane lived most of their married life in Stephens Co.,Ga. For some reason I have in my head that someone told me that she was born in Franklin Co., Ga. I have found her death certificate at the courthouse but it does not have her parents names on them.
I have also found a morgage agreement between Isaac and WJ Deaton in Oconee Co., SC in 1881. From what I can tell this was a share cropping type of agreement. Isaac agreed to give Mr. Deaton a set amount of money for the use of a peice of property to live on and plant a crop.
Regrettfully this is just about all I know of Mary Jane Coker Lee. Any help by anyone out there would be greatly appreciated. I would love to be reunited with the decendents of this family.
Sincerely,
Claudine McCallister

There is also one called, "The Coker Report" by Sherman Lee Pompey (Assisted
by June B. Barekman), 1954. Both were mimeographed which makes Xerox copies
very hard to read.
Do you have any info at all on a Calvin Coker? I know he was born in Arkansas
in 1847. Was George Washington Coker his Grandfather. They used nicknames so
much they are hard to trace.
Here is some I have on him. I think I have more but I can not get it for a
few weeks right now.cousin is away and she has it.
If you want it let me know.
I think it is about his middle name and where she got that.

Taylor's Chapel Cemetery is located on CR588. Take TX 36 north from Comanche for about ten miles and turn on CR588 towards Beattie. Watch for signs to Taylor's Chapel Cemetery.
To find directions to Indian Creek Cemetery, you can visit my site at www.cctc.net/~wtpii and it will give you a map and has a cemetery listing.
Robert Collie Coker's wife was a Hardin and it is believed she was a cousin to John Wesley Hardin. I have not check the Hardin side to be sure.

Thank you very much for your help. I have been to Stag Creek Cemetery recently, but could you possibly tell me where Taylor's Chapel Cemetery and Indian Creek Cemetery are located? As a very young child I was told John Wesley Hardin was a distant relative(poss. many ggggg Grandfather). Would you have any links to him? I really appreciate your help.
