Message Board Post:
My family roots, I have joseph coker b. Nov. 7, 1890 and died Feb. 7th 1932. His father is John William Coker and Margaret Autry both buried at Belton, Soth Carolina. John's parents are Wilson Berry Coker and Nancy Browning coker. Wilson b. 1832 and Died Feb 3, 1927. Wilson's parents are Charles and Lavinia Coker, Charles dad is Joseph coker and is dad is Thomas Coker from Devon, England.
Jacob's son Newell, whose wife was Catherine Cunningham, are first shown in
1830 census of Elbert Co. In 1840 they were in Habersham Co. and in 1850
Catherine is shown in Walker Co. I am related through their son Reuben
Mitchell (known as Mitch) married to Narcissus Loyd. They raised their
family in Towns Co. and both are buried in the Old Union Baptist Church
Cemetery in Young Harris. Their son William Alexander (known as Alex) was
my great grandfather.
What lines are you researching? Does any of this sound familiar?
>Thanks much. My Grandfathers name was Calvin Coker born in 1847 in Arkansas.
I haven't been following this thread so I'm not sure exactly who everyone
is talking about.
But if you have a relative in Arkansas in the 1840s and you suspect
Cherokee ancestors it might be that you are related to the "Buck" Coker
Line.
William "Buck" Coker's son Joseph Dempsey Coker had a number of children
from a Cherokee wife named Aney (I've seen this spelled many different
ways). He later married Cynthia Rogers a Shawnee. This family was in the
Sugar Loaf Township area.
Also, there was a woman who posted some time ago (a couple of years?) who
is a Coker from Oklahoma and was presently a member of the Cherokee
Nation--so it's worth following any rumor if you can.
Laura Coker-Garcia
I hadn't heard that Jacob's wife was an Indian. Have seen her name as
Elizabeth but with no maiden name. Do you know any more about her? I am a
gggg granddaughter of Jacob.
Thanks.
Carol
Carol, Any more on the place and time of Jacob? No maiden name ususally
denotes Indian grandma. Place and time could help locate tribe.
