I have a Hannah Coker married to a Daniel Lunt Born Jan 9 1643-44 Died jan. 29 1677-78 Married Daniel May 16 1664 she born in Newbury Mass. Don't know if this is of any help.
Beth,
That family is my line. As far as I know there is no documented evidence
that Margaret and Thomas were married. Don't know where in SC Peyton was
born. Someone told me that Thomas died in Sumter Co., SC. I don't know if
that is true or not. Peyton ended up in Lauderdale County MS. Margaret Jones
Coker is buried at Coker's Chapel Cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Peyton donated
the cemetery land. In the 1850 Lauderdale Co census Margaret was living in
the household of Matilda, who was a daughter of Margaret, and Thomas Watts.
Margaret died in 1851.
I don't know if this helps you or not.

Just wondering how far back and how many bunches of Coker's have reunions on
Labor day weekend?
I know of two others, which incidently have a commom gg grandfather, but one
in Texas and the other in Oklahoma. One was not aware of the other.
One is at Stamford Lake, Jones County, TX. These are decendents of James
Thompson and Henry Clinton Coker. These are sons of Thomas Grant Coker and
also brothers to my g grandfather, Nicklas Biddle Coker.
Our Reunion is in Altus OK. Both are Laborday weekend, and have been for
many years.
You will be welcome at either reunion. If you need further info, just ask.

Faye and All the Coker family.....
I have about decided that my James Washington Coker was adopted and no one
knew about it to write it down. I know he was born in South Carolina,
according to all the census records, in 1800/1801, dependending on when the
census was taken as I have no month of birth. But he was in Washington
County, Alabama in 1830. In Greene County, Mississippi in 1840, 1841 and
1845. In 1850, James was in Choctaw County, Alabama. ( I understandd that
Washing Co and Choctaw Co changed bounderies several times.....starting out
as Indian lands, so the family may or may not have moved.) He is not
listed in the 1860 census, only his widow and some children, in Bowie
County, Texas.
He married Amelia Dunbar (Milly) February 8, 1827 in Washington County,
Alabama. Milly's parents and grand parents were living there at that time,
also. Their children were Young Jackson, Henry D., Matilda, William S.,
and Fremont (? as spelling on image is not clear.) Amelia is in Bowie
county with two young children, probably grandchildren, or another two that
were born between 1850 and 1860, before James W. died. As I said, the
image is unclear, but it looks like a boy aged 10, W.F., and a girl aged 8,
M. B.
I've been reading the Coker archives for the past several days, and this
one says James Washington belongs to the Thomas/Margaret Jones family;
another says he's the s/o Dempsy; ;another says he belongs to Peyton. I
could really use some help here. Maybe he was just adopted somewhere along
the line!
Dear List Members: Was there ever a positive link established between John
and Priscilla Coker of Brunswick County, Virginia, and the Joseph Coker who
was married to Milly, a/k/a Milsey, a/k/a Mildred Coker, whose children were
Isaac, Jacob, Abraham, and Malachi? I read several emails on this topic,
which then shifted into the Coat of Arms subject. Thanks for your
responses. Joseph Coker

Gary, Use only the films of actual archive records. They did and do not
proof the data. use that info for leads. There has been a lot of false data
sent out in the past. This is not just a little problem it is a major
problem at LDS. The date is sent in by individuals with little to no facts.
Anyway, i have two Claiborne & Dennis in IL about the same time. That is
not a surprise. You also told me about the two. I am surprised about the
John as a parent for the two. If this is a factoid or archive data we
should look closer. We should look at it close any way but don't get to
excited yet. We may be dealing with another Coker line and different time
line.
Let me know what you find as to fact an this New line for Claiborn & Dennis.
TTYL,
Dwight

Looking for any information on Clifton Coker of Fresno, CA, wife Jessie
Franks Coker. Clifton moved from Louisiana in the 1950's. Any information
will be appreciated. Norma Hill gehillno(a)lightspeed.net
Hello,
I am not a member of this line, but, have suggestions for you.
Since you are dealing with DELAYED brith Certificate, there had to be an
older family member such a older sister or older brother who send in the
information. I would contact them as to the source of information on the
father's correct name. Also, there had to be an
application which is still on file somewhere.
# 2. Look for a death cert. on this man. It would have the father name most
like.
# 3. Could this Elizabeth had been Cathrine Elizabeth, called Lizzie which
family placed C. L. on her tombstone. Or, perphaps she was named Cathrine
Lizzie Henderson and someone thought the Lizzie was a nick for Elizabeth.
I have ran into similar problems with my ancestors.
A Coker great grand aunt was named Elizabeth called Lizzie , on her
marriage license it has "Lizzie Coker" and on her tombstone is Elizabeth
Coker Crawford.
Also, my Grandfather Crocker was born in 1862 according to information on
census but , oldest son put 1857 on his father's death certificate.
I corrected all of mine by researching offical records and census.
Best of luck
Evelyn Crocker

I am your William I Coker's brother Thomas' great greaddaughter. Did you
say William's death cert. listed his father as John Henry Coker?
My grandfather Thomas delayed birth Cert. says their father was Isaac P.
Coker; mother, Elizabeth Henderson (C.L. Henderson is what her family
says and C. L Coker is on her tombstone next to I. P. Coker (Isaac P. COker
in Boles Ark. Buffalo Cem.).
I have been in contact with a memeber of the Roseberry family and also
the Henderson family. Is there anyway you can scan the death cert. and
email it to me this is very confusing on the name, I have several older
generation of Coker members that swear his name was
Isaac and went by "Ike" also as does the member of Henderson line.
Hope we can get this confusion cleared also Clifford no longer lives in
OKC he moved to where his daughter is living . I've spoken to him on phone
but as he stated "he is old and his memory isnt good". He did remember my
grandfather Elvin Isaac COker son!

I'll try sending this trough again, evidently it didn't go when I sent it
through a couple days ago as I didn't get one copy sent to me.
I am searching for information on the death of HARRIS SPEIR b abt 1801
Jackson Co, GA. he is the son of John Speir & Rachel Bagby of Pike Co GA
He was married to HANNAH COKER in Bibb Co AL, dau of Philip Coker.
HANNAH ae 47 was listed in the 1950 Chickasaw Co, MS, census in
son-law-home Isaac Thacker Bailey and daughter Marian Speir household along
with her youngest children, Mahaley 21, George Washington, 19, Henry Harris
17, and Thomas Wilson 12. Thomas, the baby being born 6 Dec 1839.
I assume HANNAH died before the 1960 census as she is not listed with other
family members in the 1869 Yalobusha Co, MS Oakland Dist. census.
I want to try to figure out what happened to HARRIS, assumedly he died, but
I want to see if I can prove that and where he died.
If any of this looks familiar to you please contact me.
Thanks,
Bobbie.

In May of 1775, the Court in Chatham County, North Carolina ordered Milly
(Mildred?) (Milsey?) Coker to bring Isaac Coker and the orphans of Joseph
Coker to Court to be provided foresaid. At the Aug 8, 1775 Court term it was
ordered by the Court that Isaac, Jacob, Abraham and Malachi Coker, orphans
of Joseph Coker, be brought to the Sheriff to be held for this County to be
dealt with as shall be adjudged. (Evidently Milly Coker was the widow and
mother of Isaac, Abraham, Jacob and Malachi, sons of Joseph Coker)
Note their biblical names.
In August of 1758, a William Hendrick of Edgecomb County, North Carolina,
sold to his son, William Hendrick, also of Edgecomb County, North Carolina,
a tract of land showing to contain 100 acres which was part of a land patent
from the state of North Carolina to William Hendrick dated April 20, 1745
(Eventually William Hendrick had a larger patent of land), and a Joseph
Coker was a witness to this deed.
In July 1759, William Hendrick of Edgecomb County, North Carolina sold to a
Joseph (Cocker) Coker of Edgecomb County, North Carolina, a tract of land
showing to contain 50 acres.
In October 1765 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina, a Joseph Cocor sold to
Elizabeth Furguson of Edgecomb County, North Carolina, a tract of land
showing to contain 50 acres (which seemed to be the 50 acres a Joseph Coker
had purchased from William Hendrick in July, 1759. This deed was also
signed by a Mildred Coker.
In January 1767 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina, the property of William
Hendrick was sold through the Probate Court and the money was divided
between his 4 children, whose names are shown to be:
Sons: Joshua
William (also his Executor)
Daughter: Sarah was married to William Beckrringham (?)
Mary was married to Arthur Hood
And his 3 Grandchildren:
1. Jeremiah Hendrick
2. William Busby
3. Mildred Coker (Married to Joseph
Coker ? Same as Milsey Coker? Same as Milly Coker? )
The will of William Hendrick states that Elizabeth Farguson bought the 50
acres in October 1765. Witnesses were Nimrod Ferguson and Jane Ferguson.
Elizabeth Farguson was then shown to be of Haliflax County (VA?)
On January 1, 1765 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina, Eliza Ferguson, also
of Edgecomb County, North Carolina, deeded to her son, Nimrod Ferguson of
Edgecomb County, North Carolina, a Deed of gift. All my estate left to me
by my husband, Isaac Ferguson, deceased, in trust, also a Negro man, Jack,
Witnessed by Charles Daniel and Edward Moore.
Was Eliza Farguson (Ferguson) an older daughter, because in December 1786-
January 10, 1787, Elizabeth Coker, daughter and heir of Joseph Coker,
deceased and his wife, Nelly Coker, deceased , sold 200 acres for 100 pds.
(lbs?) sterling.? Deed Book B, page 204 and 59, Laurens County, South
Carolina, John Coker and William Coker witnesses. Do these dots connect?
Are some disconnected?
