Hi,
I would not doubt who you have as a great grandfather one thing i have learned with coker names is they name children after brothers and sisters it was a common english thing to do way back when. Though you all are talking arkansas relatives the same thing is going on with cokers in illinoise my lintage shows a isaac coker being the son of a claiborne coker whos father was dennis coker the isaac according to my records was a brother to a william coker. so it very possible that the two different name for great grandfathers can be different. which is very simular to mine there is two claiborne cokers and two dennis cokers so becareful you dont take wrong gt grandfather's. notice this example that their is more then one dennis or claibourne coker claybourn the older one of the sons also name one of his children isaac and one william i cant remember if it was sylvester or james wesley coker I dont have my notes in front of me because i have sent to kansas for a reunion. next wee!
kend other wise i could show a pattern in the name of coker children. even though my line may not fall in with yours take care to watch same thing going on. even i am named after my father and my uncles are names after their uncles so in my family the names have followed closely to coker names.

I saw your message about Edward Coker and Demaris Glover having a daughter named Sarah. I have been having alot of trouble trying to tie this part of my family together. I have three children listed for Edward and Demaris (Glover) Coker. Have I missed some?? I only have a birthdate (passed down from family info.) on Edward (b.1831). Not sure if this is correct or not. Don't have any more info. about Edward's or Demaris's parents. Would you be able to provide me with some of this info.?

there is a book called the "Mortality Schedule" for Arkansas - believe it or not - you might find a death notice in there for Isaac. check that out - I ran into the same thing when doing my family research - it's unbelieveable that Arkansas had no birth or death certificates before the WW1 isn't it?
only other thing I could suggest and you may have already done it - if you know where he lived you could check the census record for 1910 maybe and find some little clue out or something.

Unfortunally I have only found my g uncle William Isaac Coker in them and alot of other Cokers that I have no clue who they are. No mention of Isaac P Coker (or Ike as he was called from what I have heard or I.P. that he used alot also). Would you by chance have ever heard of an Isaac P. Coker (do not know what the P stands for). He was born 1854(1900-1910 census shows b in Ark) he died 1913 in Boles, Ark and buried in the Buffalo Cem. he was married to Carol Lizabeth Henderson (daughter of William and Nancy Scantlin Henderson) (she is buried next to him),
Isaac P. and Carol Lizabeth(henderson) Coker children were:
Thomas P. Coker (my ggrandfather) b 1887
William Isaac Coker
Columbus (also went by D.C.) Coker
Rosa Coker (Rosa not found past 1900 census marion co--did she marry or pass away thats a mystery).
Also I have been told numerous times by my dad that Thomas's middle name was Perry.
On all documents (birth cert and tombstone) it just shows P. BUT every older generation that can remember him says Perry also,. So I figure or I hope anyway that Isaac's middle name is also Perry but couldn't be positive but since they seem to keep using the same names back then over and over again that would be my guess. Anyway I hope maybe someone out there can help me with this line. Thanks

Keith, You are not alone in your amazement of how many Coker's there are, I too thought there couldnt be that many! HA
But.... I am also a descendant of the Arkansas - Oklahoma Coker's, My great great grandparents were Isaac P. and Carol Lizabeth (Henderson) Coker of Arkansas anyway I was always told there was cherokee blood also in my line, have not been able to prove that have hit a dead end with Isaac P Coker but I have also come to learn through Carol Lizabeth Henderson Coker line that there is Choctaw blood even tho I have hit another dead end with her parents William and Nancy (Scantlin) Henderson. I guess what I am trying to say is 'DONT GIVE UP" I've searched my other lines and have been able to trace most of my mothers line's not all but most. So somewhere out there (we are just waiting on them to post it haha) somewhere, someone knows our lines.......Hope you dont give up, I know I wont. GOOD LUCK!!!!
