I believe he is in a file in the Monroe Library that was done by Lucy
Colson..I will check with the Library and see what I can find for you..
Thompson Hamilton Coker was his given name unless this is the son of
Thomas Hamp Coker... and he married Epsey Anne Grace.. their daughter
Fannie O"Gilvia Coker, married Samuel Brooks ..
I believe he is a different set than my own out of Lowndes& Butler
Counties..
I believe he had something to do with Nathan Coker.
I will get back to you on this ..
Kay

Looking for information on Shade Coker who married Widow Mary Melinda Price
Collins. Their children: Zeno, Sarah (sallie), and Willie. Zeno married
Annie Dawson their children: Frank, Winnifred, Floyd, Troy, Clyde, Grady,
Vera, Kate, Alva, Lois and Louise (twins), Mildred and others who's names
I don't know. Sallie married William Harrison thier children: Augusta Mary,
Velma and Albert Eugene (died in infancy). Willie died single at about
age 45. Shade also had a brother named Ail who married an Allie Unk last
name. They had 11 children. Any help would be great. Page
Send me your line, at least the ones that married Cokers. There are some
other Cokers in Yazoo that I don't know but are supposed to be cousins of
the ones I sent you! Joy in AL
Hi, Joy in AL. I am definitely going to have to keep your Yazoo Co., MS
Coker's in mind. My line may well connect with them after all ... with
the use of the names Emma and Joseph being used over and over in yours
and being found in my line as well. Thanks for your help, Genevieve
Tharp
Greetings & Salutations Coker Researchers!
I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Nancy COKER and her husband,
Fredrick THOMPSON, as listed before. I am only guessing Nancy COKER was in
NC as her son was born there. Thank you for any help you may offer.

And they had 14 living children that grew up in Gwinnett County, GA.
Below is the information we have on the Coker line:
MISSISSIPPI FAMILY
Dempsey Coker was born around 1800 in SC. Polly Ellison was born in
1804 in Ga. When they married is uncertain, but it is thought that they
married in Mississippi. Their children are as follows: Louis was born in
1828. According to Joe Coker, Louis had two children: J. D. who is buried at
Tranquil and Louis who was last heard of in southern Florida and very
prosperous. Liza , b. 1820, Charles, b. 1832, Dempsey,(?-died young),
Polly(?) married a Moore, Jim (?) Jonathan Coker, b. Feb. 20, 1837, d.
Dec. 15, 1895 m Cordelia Akridge b. May 17, 1843 d. July 6, 1912, Albert
Jefferson, b 1838 and Mollie, b June 6, 1839. Two others, Emma and Joseph
also died young.
Polly Ellison Coker was the daughter of Johnston Ellison who came to MS
from TN and originally from SC. Johnston and his wife Mary had six children:
Cassie married Joe Moore; Mary married John Gould; Eliza married a
McAlister; Tom (1809-1894) m Polly Moore (1814-1899). Tom and his brother
Moses built Elllison Methodist Church near Deasonville, MS. Moses was born
in TN July 8, 1802 and died in Yazoo County Aug. 30, 1852. He married Mary
Rogers b. in LA in 1795 and d 1842.
Jonathan Coker, b. Feb. 20, 1837 m Cordelia Akridge, b. May 17, 1843.
Little is known about the Akridge family. Cordelia was born in Yazoo County
and was the daughter of Robert (Ross) Akridge and Jane Brister. After Ross
Akridge died, Jane married John Brister who owned land that had been
homesteaded by Dempsey Coker.
This Jane Brister left Jonathan Coker a herd of sheep.
Jonathan and Cordelia Coker had nine children: Emma, Dempsey, Joseph,
Tom (Jan 1, 1876-July 1, 1904); Maggie (June 1, 1877_Sept 1, 1907) married
Tom Ousley; Mollie (June 6, 1879-Feb. 7, 1955); Charles Sam (Sept. 9,
1872-Oct. 14, 1936); John(Sept. 3, 1882-April 5, 1947) married Patty Smith;
Robert Jefferson Coker,(June 26, 1866-Dec. 14, 1940)
Jonathan Coker fought in the War-Between-the-States. (1861-1865) He was
wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg. Later, he was taken prisoner and
released at the end of the War. He served in northern Virginia and served
under Robert E. Lee. He was brought home blind by his cousin, John Wesley
Ellison, but he later regained his sight. He was never strong again after
his ordeal.
Robert Jefferson Coker, son of Jonathan and Cordelia Coker married Mary
Steele Holt in Yazoo County on May 27, 1896. It is said that this Robert
Jefferson was named for Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis! To this union
were born the following: two daughters died in infancy, May Emma, Robert
Jefferson, Sam Holt, Joseph Williams, and Florence Delbert.
Mary Steel Holt was the daughter of Anthony Larkins Holt and Sarah
Lavenia Petrea. Little is known about the Holts except that Archibald
Larkins Holt and Mary Ann Robitsch were the parents of Anthony. Anthony
Larkins Holt had one brother, John William Holt and below is the tribute
Jtun Potts Holt, son of John and nephew of Anthony wrote about his uncle. It
was found in a scrapbook of A. P. Holt, that was in the possession of Josie
Holt Coker. A copy was given to Joe W. Coker in July, 1944.
Of the six living children of Robert Jefferson Coker and Mary Steele Holt,
Robert Jefferson II and Sam Holt were the only ones to have children (see
Descendant Chart). Florence and May never married, and although Joe married,
he and his wife never had any children. They considered the children and
grandchildren of Sam Holt as their own, however. Robert Jefferson and his
wife Martha Grayson Emens had two children: Rev. Robert Jefferson Coker and
Jane Grayson Coker. Sam Holt and his wife Robertine had two children: Robert
Eddins Coker and Betty Montgomery Coker.
We have a descendant chart we could send you by snail mail if you are
interested. Let us know if any of this fits in with your family. I have
always thought Dempsey's father was Charles; there are no children or
grandchildren named George. George might have been a brother or cousin. Joy
in AL
I do have desendents of Dempsey which I will forward to you a little later
this evening. As far as I know, there are no native Americans in the line,
although my husband does have dark skin and a very Roman nose! Joy in AL
Hi, that's about all I know. They are in the same county with some of
my lines and when the county lines changed, mine didn't move but part of
Yazoo Co. became Holmes Co. Some of this line later married into the
Coker's so I was hoping to find someone who knew about these 2 to see if
they are mine as well. I suspect that George may have been Dempsey's
father. Do you have the descendants of Dempsey? Thanks, Genevieve
Dempsey Coker of Yazoo county, MS is our line. We have not been able to
trace him back any further than his coming to Yazoo in the early 1820's. we
have no idea who George was; it would be great if he were a brother, but we
don't know. What do you know? Joy in AL
Does anyone know who these Coker's were in early Yazoo Co., MS tax
rolls?
Gorge/George Koker - found in 1823, 1825, 1827 - part of time was taxed
for 1 $500 slave, and for 42 head of horses/cattle worth $300
Demey/Dempsey Koker/Coker - found in 1823, 1824, 1825, 1827, 1830, 1831,
1833, 1834 - part of time taxed for 21 horses/cattle valued at $19, and
one slave.
Thanks, Genevieve Tharp
