I guess my family name could have been LOVIE, they (female)died as a youth
and was born after 1902.
Thanks for the answer..

Surname: Sarah Elizabeth Coker
-------------------------
I am looking for info on Sarah Elizabeth Coker who was my paternal g-grandmother.
She was married to James Polk Nave and they lived in De Kalb Co.Alabama
and then moved to Texas
in the 1900's . I want to find out where she was born. Who her parents
were,etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...I can't seem to find this person
through databases on the net..I did
find one Sarah Coker...but the dates were wrong and she was not married
to James Polk Nave.
Hi
Well let me tell you alittle about my grandfather.
He was born in Ok. about 1888 or 89. His father was a white farmer and his
mother was a cherokee indian. He was born in a town called BlueJacket, that
is in the North East section of Ok. About 40 miles from Joplin.
His mother died of a typhoid outbreak and his father was shot or stabbed.
He had 4 brothers and a sister. He along with 2 other siblings were placed in
a orphanage in Pryor Ok. He was half indian so I dont know for sure in he was
placed in the Cherokee indian asylum then after it burned then placed in the
Whitaker home. He was adopted out in 1900 to the Chambless family of Vanita
Ok.
He was so young he could not remember alot. He is not even for sure if Coker
was his last name, but after he ran away from the Chambless family he
returned to the area looking for his siblings and that was when after asking
around he came to beleave his name was Coker. But when he returned 7 years
later everyone was gone and was never able to place himself with his siblings
again.
See I have my hands full trying to find out any info.
If any of this sounds alittle familiar lets talk some more
Carla
I'm afraid I know little about my gggf or my ggf's siblings. My ggf was
orphaned
in his teens and lived with a George Best until the Civil War. He then
married,
had 4 children and moved to OK (Indian Territory). His wife and baby died,
so
he moved back settling in Auburn, MS, remarried and had ten more children.
Most of what I know about my line is from what my great uncle wrote about
the
family, but he didn't know much about his father's father. My gf was was 19
when
his father died, and I was 12 when my gf died. Also, my family was never
much
on talking about their history. I was hoping to find someone who might be
connected to my gggf from the South Carolina end. Hopefully somebody will
know of a connection.

My Lairds have been in Mobile for a long time, but I'm not sure where before that. The David Laird that my ggf travelled with was on a trip from Alabama to the Indian Territory (OK).
I was mistaken about the age of John Coker in 1850 (I looked at the wrong line). He was listed as 53, so born sometime late 1790s. I'm pretty sure it was Butler Co. although I can't seem to find the record. Another bit of information I found was that he and his family settled in what became Honoraville about 1832.

I am looking for any information on my g g grandfather. His name was John or Jonathan (sp?). My relatives think he was from South Carolina. He was listed at age 65 in the 1850 Alabama census which would make his birth about 1785. He was married to Alice Brown, but she was dead by the 1850 census. He died sometime in the 1850s. John Wilkerson Coker was born 1864 (AL./TN.?). He was the son of Asa and Melvina Johnson Coker who migrated to Giles Co., TN. by 1860. John W. married Alice Barnett (date and place of marriage not known). However, they had at least 1 daughter Annie Mae Coker who was born in 1888/1889 in Lawrence Co., TN.
John W. married again to a Molly Moore or Sherman (date and place not known). He migrated from Giles Co. or Lawrence Co., TN. to TX (Sherman) early 1900's. I don't know whether he married Molly in TN. or TX. I think he had a son John W. Coker by Molly.
A John W. Coker died in Grayson Co., TX. in 1931. This is probably John Wilkerson Coker.
Does anyone know about this John Wilkerson Coker? My connections are through his daughter Annie Mae Coker. She married Bill King and this is how I fit in. Bill King is my indirect line. He was a brother of my great grandfather. Thus my interest with this particular Coker family.
I would like to know more about Annie Mae Coker King's parents, John W. Coker and Alice Barnett. I don't know what happened to Alice Barnett Coker at all. I assume that she died before John's 2nd marriage to Molly. I have also seen sources where John married Molly first, then Alice, so I really don't know which is correct. As you can see, I know very little about this John W.
If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

This Philip should not be at all confused with the Laurens Philip or the Philips
who came to AL. (same Philips). Steve Coker, known to about all, is very
familiar with the Sumter Cokers. You should contact him. I should have his web
page address, email or something but can't put my hand on it immediately.
Anyway, he is the one doing all the inviting. I'm sure you can locate
him. Elizabeth Jones
A Phillip Coker is on the 1810 census for Sumter District as being between
the ages of 26 and 45 with a wife a 3 female children under the age of ten.
He is on the 1820 as 45+ wife and 3 male 2 female under ten 2 female 10-16
and 1 male 26-45.(8 children in all) Also on 1830 age 50-60 wife 40-50 (l M
& l F 5-10 years) (1M 10-15) ((1F 15-20) (1F 20-30) (1M 20-30) 6 children in
all. 1840 Philip is 60-70 wife is 60-70 . There are children. I think
that this Phillip is the son of Whitley Coker Sr and one of about 10
children. Maybe this will help or confuse someone.

I have run across no Wilsons. Have found no real connection between these Cokers
and those of Edgecomb, Bertie etc. It appears to me due to various records found
in research this John was son of John of Brunswick. Crossed over into NC and
died there. I believe he is the progenitor of the Sumter County, SC Cokers. I
believe John's brothers: Robert, William and Joseph crossed over also and
eventurlly wound up in Surry County, NC. I arrive at this through land records,
tax lists, giving power of attorney for one another etc.
