In the Fork Shoals Baptist Church membership list, Greenville County, SC.,
a number of my Crumptons were members, and I also find Jemiah Cooker.
I believe this to be my Jemima Coker. My Jemima (Jamima)(Mima) Crumpton,
born 23 Feb 1798 in Greenville County, SC, and married William Coker, born
1790. My Jamima and William Coker moved to Bibb County, AL. One has
suggested that Thomas Coker who died in 1818 in Bibb Co., AL. may be the
father of William. Thanks. Dan Crumpton

Could you tell me more abt this "Charles Coker"? My gg-grandfather was a
"Charles Coker".
Hello. I am researching the Civil War regiment 4th Tennessee
Cavlary (Union), and in Co F of that regiment there was a soldier
named WILLIAM L. COKER.
He enlisted Feb 24, 1863 at Liberty, KY, and his descriptive roll
states that he was born in Hamilton Co., Illinois. I thought at first
that this was a typo, and should have read "Hamilton Co., TN",
especially since I found a large number of COKERS in various
Tennessee censuses.
However, I did find him listed as living in Hamilton Co., Illinois in the
1850 census for that county, so it was no typo. But there do seem
to be connections between this family and the TN Cokers, because
the three eldest children in that family were listed as born in
Tennessee, and from what I can tell their father Charles, who was
apparently dead by the 1850 census but is listed in the 1840, lived
in Tennessee at one point (as per some land records I found on
USGenWeb archives).
I would like to know if this soldier, William L. Coker, returned to
Illinois after the war, or if he stayed in Tennessee. The 1880
Tennessee Soundex lists two William Cokers, one age 40 in Knox
Co., and one age 39 in Blount Co., but both are listed as born in
TN. The 1900 TN Soundex lists three William Cokers, one William
L age 50 living in Knox Co., one William M. age 61 living in Knox
Co., and one William P. age 50 living in Macon Co., but again
these all have a birthplace listed as TN. (I have not yet checked
the 1880 or 1900 Illinois Soundexes yet).
Any information about this soldier and his family would be
appreciated.
Thanks

Hello all!
I was interested in the recent postngs concerning John Wesley Coker and
his family. I have a Eliza Jane Coker in my family line that I know
very little about. According to census she was born in 1825/6 in either
Alabama or Georgia. She married John William Blalock on 29 December
1847 in Autauga Co., AL. The banns was put out by John W. Blalock and a
W.E or J.E Coker. Does this fit with what anyone knows about John
Wesley and his family? Any replys would be appreciated.

I too, am searching for information on a John Wesley Coker.
My great-grandfather, J. W. Coker, born in 1862, I believe, in
Pike County, Al. John's parents may have been George A. Coker
And Emaline A. Jackson.
In Pike Co. Al. marriage records there are two listings.
(could the following John W. be George's dad?)
----John W Coker to Sharlotey W Miles 19 Apr 1835
----George A Coker to Emeline A Jackson 23 Dec 1853
John's siblings were?
William Lee Coker b. 1863
George Bunyan Coker b. 1865
Merrunva O. Coker b. 1866
Amanda Coker b. ?
And possible a Alice b. abt.1870
Research so far, looks like George A. Came to Bossier Parish
Louisiana, about 1865. He may have tagged along with Wiley C.
Keith. The 1850 Alabama, Census Pike County Roll # 13 Page 243 Family # 1681
Shows a George, age 18, born in Ala. Living in the household of Wiley C.
Keith,
age 25 born in S.C. listed as a farmer, Living in the same house was Mary age
51
or 57 and E. Coker age 70 . Mary and E. both born in S.C. ("E. Coker"
could have
been Mary's Mother) Mary Coker was born abt. 1798 in S.C. she died abt 1872 in
Bossier Parish, La. She married Littleton Keith before 1820, Children were
James,
Wiley Chapman, Thomas and Eugenia Matilda Keith. What kin George A. Coker
was to Mary is still a mystery. I know that George did come to Louisiana,
With Mary.
If anyone, can expand on this please do so.
Larry Coker, Bossier Parish, Louisiana
