Hi,
I'm new so I hope I'm not posting something someone else just did. I'm
looking for info on Sara(h) Francis Coker--Everyone called her Fannie. She
was supposedly indian. Born around Purcell Oklahoma. She for sure married
Sam Sutton. They lived in Texas, Bandera County. They had several
children (Lewis, Dorothy, Vivian plus a few more that I don't know the
names of) She died in/around 1971. Does any of this sound familiar to
anyone? Any help at all would be appreciated. I was told that her parents
were John and Martha (Vanderpool?) Coker. But I'm not sure if this is
right. Thanks in advance to anyone that knows anything.

I'm looking for info on Wm Coker (1848-1850?) son of Hugh Coker
(1806-1808?) born in Darlington, SC. Hugh was brother to Caleb Coker who
was father of Caleb Coker Jr., father of James Lide Coker. This family
founded Coker College in Hartsville as well as the Sonoco Products Company
of Hartsville.
Wm is said to be buried in the Coker Family Cemetery but there is no marker
there for him. He was married to Rosa Lee Haye from Anson County, NC.
There are stories that he went to the Univ of VA for 4 yrs (1861-1865?)
eventhough this would put him there around age 12?
This family settled in Society Hill, SC before going to Hartsville.
Thomas Coker, Jr
father of Caleb Coker (1775, Craven, SC)
father of Hugh Coker (1806-1808) Hartsville,Darlington, SC
father of Wm (D?) Coker (1848-1850?) Hartsville,Darlington, SC
father of Sarah Frances (Sallie) Coker (1874)

Hartsville,Darlngton, SC
mother of Dosia Helen James Mathis (1943)

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Stephen Coker
I picked up your e-mail adress somewhere on the web re Coker family
research and hope you don't mind me writing to you. - I am doing research
into a Nevis sugar plantation where a William Coker was manager during the
1760s and again in the 1780s. He was married to Francis Coker (nee Weekes)
and lived in Woodcutts Farm, nr Sixpenny Handley, Dorset, England. He had
two sons, William Young Coker and John Frederick Coker. He was said to be
both a 'Dorset and a Nevis man'. Do you know anything about that branch of
the Cokers, or do you know anyone who does?
It would be great if you had any information.
Best wishes

If any one researching John Coker 1618 V.A finds on familysearch that his
father is Bonham Strangeways I would ask you to ignore it there is absolutely
no chance that he is the father I have the means to prove what I say is
true
also if you are looking at the will of Jane Coker 1651 Kingsbridge Devon
in the hope of finding John Cokers father
this again is a dead end.I have posted this message as a number of Cokers
have contacted me only after spending alot of time and money following
this bad infomation, anybody wanting more details contact me at my e-mail

Coker research can be frustrating. I am sorry to say that yours is not my
line. I'm sure they come together somewhere back in the Carolinas. My
oldest Joseph Coker (that is documented) was born SC 1799 and married
Malinda Brown there ca 1820. Their migration path was Franklin Co TN 1830;
Talladega AL 1840; Cherokee Co TX 1850 and Bexar Co TX ca 1853 and settled.

Debbie, thanks for reminding me I need to get back on this project. I had
some serious eye surgery earlier this year and have been distracted -
everything is okay again. Go to the URL below, it will take you directly to
the Coker Cemetery. I have done the first section, click on "Section
1". I have 3 to go and they are longer. They have not been kept in alpha
order, so I am re-doing as I go. I have some genealogical notes after some
of the oldest.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbexar/coker00.htm
If the above doesn't work, click on the one below. This is the Texas part
of the U.S. GenWeb URL. Go down to Bexar Co. and click on cemeteries.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/
Does any of this for Joseph tie in with your line? There are so many
similiar lines of Cokers' that I am totally confused, much to the point that
I am about to give up. The only part of my line that I am 100% positive
about is from Joel H. Coker on down. Joel is my husband's gg-grandfather.
I would appreciate any help you could give.
Thanks,
Roxann

FamilySearch.org has Asbury R. "Berry" Coker b. abt 1814 in Laurens, SC
with a brother Mason b. abt 1810 in Laurens, SC.
I believe this to be Berry R. Coker. It is possible that his middle initial
is actually an "L" instead of an "R".

"Joseph" Coker, not "John" Coker. We have enough Josephs and John without
getting things more confused.

Hi Sharon, we haven't exchanged email since May. Glad to see you are
working on this Coker line.
I hate to disagree with John Coker b aft 1731 being married to Nancy
"Dicey" Dial. I agree with all after that, but nothing has ever been found
in writing identifying Dicey as being Nancy Dial. There were about three
John Cokers in Laurens area around 1800. One of them did die about 1805
and his wife was named Nancy, but that's all we know. Nancy shows up to be
living in Jackson Co GA around 1805. There is a Dicey in the Laurens
Co 1810 census with three male children, but we don't have anything more
on Dicey. The will of the earlier mentioned John Coker and Mary Aldridge
mentions "youngest son John", but again nothing further to help. If you
have found a proof, I would appreciate hearing about it. The Dial surname
shows up when Isaac Malcolm Dial married 1st- Nancy Amanda Coker and 2nd
Mary Coker, said to be a dau of Drury Coker - Nancy and Mary were said to
be cousins. The book
"Martin Dial and Related Families" (1959) mentions Isaac Dial's marriages,
but nothing on a Nancy Dial marrying a Coker.

living in Jackson Co GA around 1805.

Trustee/Historian for Coker Cemetery, San Antonio
Hi Bob,
I have only heard Nancy referred to as Dicey. I only put down my line so other
researchers would know who I was working on not everything is documented, yet.
I do have a lot of info I copied from abstracts of deeds, land records, etc.
from Brunswick Co., Surry Co.,VA and Laurens Co.,SC.
I have not had time to enter it all in my database. The name Martin Dial I
know shows up on Joseph Coker's Will as a witness and there were other deeds
where the Dials and Cokers show up together. I am hoping once I get all of the
info in my database it will make more sense.
