Please pardon one error. It is supposed to be Jesse Adam Coil, not Jesse Addin Coil. I'm sorry for the mistake.

I am a descendent of Mercer County, Ohio Coils and have some information that may be of help.
The Coil part of my lineage working back starts with my great grandmother, Clara Jane (Clarissa Jane) Coil who married Cyrus Benjamin Stose. Clara Jane's parents were Jesse Addin Coil and Lydia Berry. Lydia was his first wife. After she died, Jesse married Margaret (I don't know her maiden name) and they had several children together. Combined children of both mothers I have listed are Clara J, Leman, Frank, Lydia A, Warren, and Walter Bert Coil.
There are two Jesse Coil's listed in Mercer County so when you follow the lineage you have to be sure which Jesse you have as they are actually cousins. Jesse's parents were Peter Coil and Hester Sue Roebuck. Peter's father was Andrew Coil Jr. and his father was Andrew Coil Sr. I think Andrew Sr's father was Gabriel Coil, and Gabriel Coil's father was Valentine "Felty" Coil...possibly Kuehler, or Kille.
From what I understand, this family originally were from Germany and traveled to America as part of the Palentines. I have at least two, maybe three original ship listings who could be our Valentine, but I am not sure which one is actually ours. There might be others in this email list who know more about that. Valentine's sons decided for whatever reason to take different spellings for their last name, with variations of Kille, Coile, Coyle, Coil, and maybe more. They each migrated to different locations and Andrew Sr's family headed into Ohio, settling towns along the way, building churches and schools in each town. This group had a part in settling Spencerville in Allen County, and Neptune in Mercer County as well as Coiltown in Mercer County near Mendon, Ohio. Coiltown no longer exists.
There is a ton of information online about Coils. I haven't even had to do a lot for myself other than to figure out minor problems such as the two Jesse Coils. If you go online and search Coil Genealogy Mercer County Ohio, I am sure you will be over flowing with information to sort through. In fact there are several in this email group who can add more about this line and other Mercer County Coil families in Mercer County.
Good luck.

Hello, we were told that first the family came from Ireland and the spelling changed to Coil. Also that anyone spelling it Coil would be related. My family settled in Mercer County and then moved to North Dakota.

We are trying to locate our family bible. It was sold at a garage sale about 15 - 20 years ago in San Francisco, CA. The man that bought it was believed to be a collector and paid $50 for it. This bible was very large and heavy according to my uncle. It is supposed to have family history in it that dates back to the 1700's. If you have any information that would help us locate it, we would be most appreciative. Thank you!
