Message Board Post:
Hello,
Can anyone tell me the relationship between John Cogswell and Samuel Cogswell, whose names appeared adjacent to one another in the 1800 census in Kent (p. 96)?
John was age 26-45, while Samuel was age 16-26.
Thanks!
Judi Watson

I seem to have run into a brick wall. I am looking for geneology relating to Stuart F. Cogswell, born April 18, 1918, died April, 1985 (in Connecticut). He had a sister, Catherine, and a brother Everett, who may still be living (in Rhode Island), as well as at least one more brother, maybe two. His wife was Isabel(nee Tracy of Rhode Island).
I am running into problems going further back - I need Stuart's father and mother. I THINK his mother's name was Mary, and she was from Scotland. I also know there is a Canadian connection (Nova Scotia? New Brunswick?), somewhere. I am finding a Warren E. Cogswell in Rhode Island, wife Mary, (Warren Everett?), but I don't think he's the right person. The census records don't seem to indicate that Warren is Stuart's father, and I don't recognize the name Warren at all. Warren had a son Stewart (different spelling).
I am especially looking for any information related to Stuart's Native American bloodlines.
I'm kind of new at searching, but I think I'm doing a pretty good job (trying to, anyway). Does anyone also know why I find no military records for Stuart, when I know that he served in WWII? I have found a few military records for some other family members. Have they all been digitized, yet?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Hi,
I am going to forward your email to a relative researcher who just has tons
of family info. My connection to Cogswell is back many generations, they
also lived in CT then went to PA before Revolutionary War. This was
Benjamin Crawford, his youngest son; D. L. Crawford married Miranda/ Marinda
Cogswell/ Coggswell. Miranda/Marinda Cogswell was the first white child
born in what is now Bradford Co. Joyce Tice has a tri-county website with
lots of history of Bradford, and couple other counties. (I recently moved,
then had a computer crash, so I am giving you this info from memory) I
believe these ancestors were Scottish, and know they were from CT.
These Cogswell may be a connection to yours, or may not, but thought I would
send the info regardless, sometimes you never know when you make a
connection.
