Is the Albert Cogswell you refer to the son of Hiram and Lucy Ann (Tilden) COGSWELL?
I have a connection to this family.

This is taken from the Litchfield, Ct. list.
Hi list, I just read an interesting article in my local paper. This is a source I had never considered for family research! In Washington Depot, the Town Clerk found some old records in the vault. Among them, a registry for dogs dated 1870-72. A note of humor: All the registrants list a description of their dogs. S.H. Clark and Charles Rowe both described their dogs as looking like Pat Doharty. One wonders . . . . Do we have any descendents of Pat that might shed some light?Names from the article:
Bell Brinmade (Fritz is medium sized and white, a grand dog for chickens)
Charles Harrison (Sport, very innocent looking)
Orestes Hickox (Major, big, black and one of the best looking dogs in town)
C.L. Ford (Beauty, black and white, homely is no description for him.
George Cogswell (Spot, a spotted coach dog, so deaf he can't hear the thunder)
R.A. Bryan (Commodore, medium sized black dog with white feet, said to be good for nothing)
Edward Hine (Watch, is a native of Pennsylvania, blind as a bat and ten years old)
R. Mealia (Darli, a yellow with cropped ears and a lame leg . . . and a smutty mouth)
S.H. Clark (Shepard, medium-sized, yellow and shaggy, and looks like PatDoharty)
Charles Rowe (Dark, large, black and yellow - also looks like Pat Doharty)
This info was extracted from an article by John Addyman, April 7, 2004, in Voices, published semi-weekly by Prime Publishers in Woodbury, CT. If anyone is interested, I will scan a copy of the article for you. Contact me privately for an email copy hkenney(a)kp-l.com.
Happy Hunting,

I am not related to this family, I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "A Genealogical Register of the Inhabitants of the Town of Litchfield, Conn." by George C. Woodruff.

I have just listed this first edition book about the Cogwells in America by E. O. Jameson on ebay, item #5506101360. From what I understand it is a rare book and the Cogswell Family Society does not have an original copy of this.
