Paulette,
I am a direct descendant of Capt. Nathan Tibballs and Hannah Cogswell. Somewhere along my line the name was changed to Tibbals and then to Tibbils. My grandmother was Belma Dorothy Tibbils. Do you have any further information on Nathan Tibballs? Was he a jr.? I looked up an article in the Boston Evening Transcript from March of 1905 where someone queried a Genealogical column about Nathan and Hannah. Ironically the question was who was Nathan's parents. There was never a reply, but this person mentioned that Nathan was referred to as a "jr." in Connecticut Marriages.
I think he may have been a jr. because I found considerable mention of a Nathan Tibballs in the muster rolls for the Indian Wars and they were being fought about the time jr. was born.
I believe the "Capt" came from his service in the Revolutionary War. He is listed in a volumne of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots printed by the DAR. His grave is at North Cem, Auburn, Cayuga Do NY. His grave was listed in 1969. He is not mentioned in the Revolutionary Pension Records.
I just made my connection to Cogswell yesterday while volunteering at the NEHGS. With the help of Gary Boyd Roberts at the NEHGS I was able to open many new lines and am very interested in what additional information you may have.
Thank you, Karen Struve

ggfather Edward Ebeneezer Blossom was evidently born a Cogswell in Clinton Cty OH. He appears in the 1850 census (Milford township, Butler Cty, OH) age 4, as child of CC and Harriet Blossom - along with three sisters Emily 7, Mary E 2, Hannah C 1/2.
Our mystery is as to who the Cogswells were, what happened to them, why the children were adopted, there is mention of a brother who does not show up in this census.
Anybody run across them?

I recently discovered that I am a Cogswell by birth, but have no information, whatsoever, on that part of my lineage, which is most recently from Arizona. My birth certificate is lost within the black hole of "military-facilities-which-no-longer-exist". Would anyone have an idea where I should start?
This topic could potentially be a sensitive one . . . . perhaps a personal e-mail would be best, to begin with.
Thank you for your help,
Susanne
