Hello Cogswell researchers - I just recently joined this list and hoping to
find information about the following Cogswell family -
GEORGE COGSWELL m CLARAINIA CUMMINGS - I haven't been able to find much
information on these people except that they are supposedly the parents of
my grgrgrgrandmother, CLARAINIA/CLARISSA m. to BARNEY BOUCK. The daughter,
Clarana/Clarissa, was b abt 1806 in NY and she married Barney BOUCK in NY
in the early 1820's. They had a child born in Victor, Ontario Co, NY in
1823 before moving to Sandusky Co, OH, then Buchanan Co, IA where all 4 are
buried. Based on census records, George most likely lived in one of the
following NY counties before moving to the mid-west - Cayuga, Albany,
Ontario or Schoharie.
I would sure appreciate hearing from anyone who might have information
about these people.
Thanks -

Well there are at least three of us Cogswell Descendants out there on this
mailing list.
Brett,
Don Cogswell's version of the Cogswell Geneology ("Descendants of John
Cogswell, 1635 - 1996") started out with the Jameson information and added
several thousand additional Cogswell Descendants. It is not limited to
those descendants whose last name is Cogswell. There additional
information, including many corrections, for the descendants listed by
O.E.Jameson. Don and the Cogswell Family Association did a great job.
You may want to contact Don, who is the CFA Historian, and ask him your
other questions.
Martha,
You too should contact Don Cogswell and ask him for the information you
request. He may also ask you to provide info to help fill in some blanks
for other Cogswell descendants. You may also want to contact Brett Long
(above). You two are likely descended from the same Samuel Cogswell,
grandson of immigrant John Cogswell.

Don Cogswell's e-mail address is: doncogs(a)shore.intercom.net
Roger,
Yours is the first message I've seen posted in a long time.
I'm looking for information about my gr-gr-gr-gr-gr grandmother, Patience
Cogswell, of New Milford, CT. She married Gideon Morgan.
Any relationship to this line?
Martha Vaughan

The question was just asked if the Cogswell list was active. Well that was
the first post I have seen. So I will follow up with another question <g>.
Hopefully some interest can be generated in this list.
How does the new Cogswell book compare to the old classic of E.O. Jameson?
Is the additional information primarily the generations since Jameson
published or have some of the earlier lines been better developed?
I'm interested in the Cogswell families of Litchfield Co., CT who
descended from Samuel Cogswell and Lydia Starkweather. The Jameson book
did not list parents for some spouses who married into the Cogswell family
and I haven't been able to find the answers from other sources.
So has anyone additional information on:
Jane OWEN, mar Edward COGSWELL 1758 at New Milford
Cynthia HEWITT, mar Samuel COGSWELL 6-Nov-1803 at New Milford (according
to Jameson but no record found in New Milford church records and the
records for adjacent Washington where several other family marriages
occured can only be accessed in Washington)
