Hello, my GGG grandfather was W.H. Coghlan from Alabama (civil war records state) but lived in Neshoba Co., MS most of his life. There is a Jackson Coghlin (spelling incorrect in census) in Pike Co. in the 1860 Census. W.H.'s surname is also mispelled in the census as Coghlin. I am looking for W. H.'s parents, geneology. Could be same parents as your ancestor. Are you in MS?

Hi John: The ancestor I am having a problem finding is BERNARD COGHLIN, b.1836, Ireland. He married Lucy Alice PALIN, in June 1868 at W. Derby, England. They had at least 3 known children: Mabel N., 1871; Bernard Wm., 1874; Gerald J.R., 1877.
The COGHLIN family imigrated to Montreal, Canada in the early 1869's.
ANY information re these COGHLIN 's would be very, very much appreciated, as I have searched for several years, and have found little. They were my Great-Aunt and Uncle. They seem to have appeared out of nowhere, and after settling in Montreal in 1869, disappeared off the face of the world!
Since Bernard I. Coghlin/Coghlan was listed on the 1901 (age 64) Canadian Census for Montreal as born in Ireland, and he lived for quite a few years in England before coming to Canada, I would think he'd have at least a registered place of birth, somewhere. But nothing has come to light for me, - perhaps by posting here, some small piece of the puzzle will turn up.
Many thanks in advance for any/all information you could share....
Kind regards,
Ann Palin

My grandfather came from Swansea Wales. His name was either John or Jack Stanley Coghlan. The family had a castle there at one time, Scurledge ( my spelling is probably wrong}! His father was David and his mother was Mary. I know there were several siblings but the only name I know for sure is a brother names Willie whom I believed died in some war. If I am on the right track please let me know
