I am searching for information on Thomas Coghlan, born 29 December 1850 in Kilbarrack, Co Dublin, Ireland, son of Charles Aloysius Coghlan and Bridget Furey. Family legend has it that he "went to America." My last record of him in Ireland is 1879.
I'd be grateful for input. many thanks. Anna.
Im searching for info on a Coghlan ancestor:
Mary Coghlan born 2 Oct 1846 Clare, Ennis Ireland.
Her Parents were Martin Coghlan and Mary Casey.
Martin was a labourer and Mary Casey's father was a farmer.
We figure she sailed to Australia between 1879-1882.
On looking thru the NSW shiping indexes there is a Mary Coghlan sailed on the Hereford, aged 17 and arrived in Sydney in 1882. I cannot find where the Hereford sailed from. I have yet to confirm this is actually her that was on this ship. We believe she was a maid and possibly had a job waiting for her there.
However, she married John Metcalf 1 Oct 1885 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.
Mary's siblings were:
PATRICK Born 3RD MARCH 1867.
TWIN BROTHER JOHN Born 3RD MARCH 1867.
CATHERINE Born 4TH APRIL 1869
ANNE Born 4TH MAY 1871.
I have found only one child of Mary Coghlan and John Metcalf - Edward George born 4 Jul 1903 (nicknamed Ted) in Auckland, New Zealand. So obviously at some point they moved to New Zealand. John Metcalf remarried in 1914 so we believe Mary died betw 1903 and 1914.
I am looking for anyone with links to this family. We would love more info on Mary and the Coghlan line!
regards
Gina
