Mary,
Thank you for inquiring... How are you related to Coggins?
Donald Coggins is my husbands grandfather. Through him and his line we have one surviving brother JOHN ALAN COGGINS that we stay in touch with. His father is 3. CARL PEARCY3 COGGINS (CLARENCE H.2, JOHN H.1) was born July 31, 1891 in Pembroke ME, and died January 1971 in Bellingham, Norfolk MA. He married VIVIAN MAY STRONG, daughter of SAMUEL STRONG and LUELLA BENNETT. She was born May 04, 1893 in New Hampshire, and died September 12, 1978 in Orange, TX.
Children of CARL COGGINS and VIVIAN STRONG are:
4. i. DONALD STRONG4 COGGINS, b. April 22, 1925, Lynn MA; d. July 13, 1990, Lomita California.
ii. RICHARD E. COGGINS, b. 1918; m. MARY.
iii. JOHN ALAN COGGINS.
iv. ROBERT H. COGGINS, b. 1915; m. FLO.
Henry Coggins resided in Nova Scotia from Massachusetts and then moved to Maine. I believe he traveled back and fourth from Nova Scotia to MA by ship for work, and eventually became one of the first Bay area settler in Maine. At that time, trade had opened up between Nova Scotia and Maine. Pirates were about and soldiers were common place. The ports were so full of boats, you could jump from one to the other, and the food trade was big. Thiefs would hijack supply ships, naval armies were necessary. It's food supply was primarily farming and fishing, and trading was huge. Henry Coggins came from a large size Coggins family from Digby Neck, Yarmouth, and other areas nearby I think? The other Coggins names found such as Ansel, and Benjamin when looking in NS are connected and Henry Coggins. There is some confusion on my part between the Ellenwood families of the same NS areas and the connection with Crosby Garnett. Dates and Places with sources are little, and this is the area !
I am mo
st intrigued. The Coggins built homes there and those can be viewed online but I cannot remember the link right now. I will try to find it again.
Thank you for contacting me,
Juliet Coggins

I have your John H. Coggins in my Coggins line. He was born 19 May 1831, in Lubec, Washington, Maine; died 1 Dec 1896, Pembroke, Washington, Maine; buried in Forest Hills Cemeter, probably Pembroke.
His parents are Henry Coggins, born 3 Apr 1791, Yarmouth, probably the Yarmouth in Nova Scotia, Canada; died 16 Feb 1856 in Pembroke, Washington, Maine; and Lucy Ann GARNETT, born about 1805, Maine. They had 9 children, John H. being their 3rd child.
On the Coggins side, I go back to about the 10th generation, but I have not verified a lot of it. I got a lot of my information from WorldConnect and familysearch.org. Like I said, much of the information needs to be verified, but atleast it gives a clue as to where to search. My aunt did a lot of research; then she turned it over to an amatuer researcher, so notes are a bit scarce for some of the people.
Henry Coggins' (b. 1791) parents are Henry Coggins, Jr., born 1765, Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts; died 5 Jan 1816, Lubec, Maine; and Sarah or Sally CROSBY, born about 1763/1765 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, died 20 Nov 1827, Lubec, Hancock, Maine. They are my 3rd GR grandparents.
I come from their 4th child, William Coggins, born 1 Apr 1799, Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada, died 6 Jul 1859, Lamoine, Hancock, Maine. Your Henry (born 1791) was their first child that I know of. (Henry and Sarah Crosby were married 7 Nov 1787 and your Henry was born 1791, so there is a gap of 4 years in which 2 children could have been born. Maybe these first two died young?)
If you would like more information on Henry H.'s (b. 1831) siblings, parents, etc., please let me know. I will be happy to share what I have, along with what research notes I have.
