Wm R Coggins married Catherin (Nee ?) about 1849 then Sarah Redwine (b 1838 NC) in 1858 in Davidson Co NC. They left NC mid 1870's after Sarah's father (Michael III's) death and lived a short time in TN before moving to Marion Co. Fl. The family with 7 children are shown on the 1880 Marion FL census as citrus farmers. 2nd oldest son William B Coggins is shown in the 1920 & 1930 Marion census with wife Cora Lee and 7 children.
I am looking for the siblings of Sarah Redwine and more info on this Coggins line. It appears to me William R Coggin had brothers JD (b 1820 NC) and Limmin (b 1819) who married Hixy and Bersheba, and Elam (sp?). The Coggin Father appears to be Eli (b 1787 ?) who married Henny (Nee ?).

My copy of STATE CENSUS OF NORTH CAROLINA 1784-1787 by Mrs. Alvaretta Kenan Register lists in Warren County, a Wm. Coggin with 1 male between 21 and 60 and 4 females of all ages. It also lists Jno. Coggin with 1 male between 21 and 60, 1 male under 21 or over 60, and 6 females of all ages. All these people were listed as white. Warren County took the census in 1786. There were no Coggins or Scroggins or similar spellings.
This census is not complete, since some counties chose not to participate. Those that named the heads of household were Bertie, Burke, Caswell, Chowan, Duplin, Gates, Granville, Halifax, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Martin, Montgomery, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Richmond, Surry, Tyrrell, Warren and Wilkes. The others did not report or did not name anyone.

Robert Coggins b. 1807 was the son of James and Levenia Murphey Coggins of Franklin and Nash counties, NC. James and Levenia had sons, James, Martin, Elijah, and Robert Coggins. Robert is the only one that left town and moved to TN, married Priscilla Merritt and had children, moved to Ga and SC. James, Martin and Elijah stayed in Franklin and Nash counties where they are buried.
In which census do you first find your Bithel Coggins of Pitt county. Pitt county is very close to Nash county and Franklin county.
I would love to see a connection, too.

I would like to know more about your Robert Coggins b 1807 of NC. I have a great grandfather, Bithel Coggins of Pitt Co., NC, b abt 1818, perhaps in County Derry, Ireland. He married Mary Womble and had the following children:
Sarah b1842
Mary b 1844
Henry A. b 1846
Louisa Jane b 1848
Almedah b 1849
Sherod b 1850
Edward b 1853
? b 1858
Louisa Jane or Jane Louisa (the record varies) was my Great Grandmother. She married first Benjamin Albritton Harris, and second Richard E. Harris.
Jane Lou's brother, Henry Coggins, had a son named Robert b 1872.
Could these Coggins be related to your Robert Coggins?
