All my kin folks were either born and raised in Lexington, NC or Salisbury,
NC. Grandfather's name was William Joseph Coggins. He had a brother named Sam.
Sometime around 1900, the family moved to Winston-Salem, NC and remained there
until their deaths in the 1950s. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you in
your search.
My name is Ivy I hope you can help me. Recently, I
started searching my family tree when I found out that
my grandmother now 90 years old never had a birth
certificate created. I decided to start with my great
grandfather side of the family since we know little
about him. My grandfathers signed legal documents as
Lum Coggins, but my grandmother remembers him being
called Columbus Coggins. Lum was born in 1867 in LA
but lived most of his adult life in Arkansas. My
grandfather has one brother and three sisters
according to the census. All I can find was that he
was raised by his grandfather Ned Walker who was from
Alabama. I really would like to know why his
grandfather raised him at an early age. I came across
your website, and Im writing in hopes that you might
have some information that could assist me, maybe some
how we could be related.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Cordially,
Ivy
