Many thanks! Unfortunately I have nothing else on the Coggin family. My interest here is in John White, and since I haven't been able to identify his parents, I was wondering if there was a connection between him and the Coggins. I agree with you, he could be a farm hand, unrelated.
I don't think he's the same as Thomas White in 1860, however. I think he's the following, two young men living together:
1860 Northampton Co.
John White 23 farm laborer
Wilbert Lewis 21 farm laborer
I haven't found him in 1870, but in 1880 John White is with his wife (Olive Edwards) and several children. In that census he's listed as John O. White, but the death certificates for two of his children give his middle initial as S.
I wonder, though - could Thomas White be his brother? That could be a very useful clue for me. I'll see if I can find Thomas in the other census years. Thank you!

Hi. My family extends from Raleigh (Rolly) in Northampton County.
In terms of the John White you speak of ... while this information isn't any sort of confirmation, but a possibility ... it looks like a John White may have been a boarder that worked as a Farmhand. He is living with Joshua, Mary and James in 1850. Then, it seems like Mary, who I assume was widowed and is 83 on the 1860 census begins living with James and his wife Mary. In this census, there is a Thomas White in the household. The age is off by about 5 years, but since the Mary and James are the same from the previous household, it could be deduced that he's the same person, possibly a Thomas John or John Thomas? This Thomas is listed as a Farm hand on the 1860 census.
I'd really like to know if you have any information on the ancestors or descendants of Raleigh (Rolly) Coggin(s)? I've read some older information on the boards about difficulties finding a link with Henry Coggins, Raleigh Coggins when they came to Northampton County.

Hello,
I am continuing research I began about 15 years ago on my Coggins family based mostly in Northeastern North Carolina. I am a direct descendant of Raleigh (Rolly) Coggin(s) who was married to Mary Edwards in Northampton County, NC and was suspected of being born in Isle of Wight, VA.
I know from all of the documents I have uncovered and researched within the area that there had been two sets of Coggins' that existed in Northampton County. I have not traced them back to each other, but have read speculation the proposed brother of Raleigh (Rolly) was the other lineage. I need help verifying this as well if at all possible.
I feel the link between Raleigh (Rolly) and his parents has still never been uncovered and proven effectively, but I could be wrong. I would also like to connect with others who have lineages from this blood line whether it be direct or indirect.
Thank you!
