Re: [COGGESHALL] Re: Mary (Coggeshall) Northrup

The 1930 book "The Coggeshalls in America" was compiled by Charles Pierce Coggeshall and Thellwell Russell Coggeshall and published by CE Goodspeed of Boston.
On page 82 Mary the second daughter (4th child) of Capt Joseph Coggeshall and Elizabeth Phillips was born North Kingston, RI March 14, 1765; married in North Kingston to Ebenezer Northrup.
This is all the book has on them.
Capt Joseph "lived in North Kingston, RI and in 1758 he was appointed commissary with the rank of captain of the troops raised by the colony that year. He was appointed by the General Assembly to take the census of North Kingston in 1776 and again in 1777, and was justice of the peace in 1777. In 1780 he was appointed by the General Assembly on a committee to revise certain laws concerning the currency."

Subject: [COGGESHALL] Re: Mary (Coggeshall) Northrup
I'm new to this list and noticed from searching teh archives thatthere
is not a lot of activity here, but I hope that someone can help. I just
found a reference to Mary Coggeshall marrying Ebenezer Northrup (assume
it is Northup from RI) in "The Coggeshalls of America" by C.E.
Goodspeed. She was the daughter of Capt. Joseph and Elizabeth
(Phillips) Coggeshall. My 3rd great grandfather was Ebenezer Northup of
North Kingston, RI, and he was said to have married a woman named Mary.
Their first two children were named Eliza P. (possibly Phillips) and
Joseph C. (possibley Coggeshall?). This seems a little too coincidental
to NOT be the wife of my Ebenezer, as both families resided at North
Kingston. The only disparity is that she was born in 1765 and Ebenezer
in 1774, so a little unusual for the male to be younger back then. I
would certainly appreciate any information.
