In the past the list was used for conversations between CCs but there were
some CCs who objected to being forced to wade through all the non-CoGenWeb
specific postings. That made for a very dry, limited use list, used solely
for CoGenWeb business.
As one who has to process literally hundreds of emails a day (I get over 500
a day on my job) I'm a big fan of having a business list and, if people want
it, a separate list for chatting. While I appreciate my fellow CoGenWeb
volunteers and the great job you all do, I'm not one who has much time on my
hands to read through things like family recipes. But I have no objection
to an optional list that had that kind of content :-)

Being on the list might discourage people - after the twenty-or-so

along with the occasional business discussions.
I get what you are saying. The bottom line is that the USGW says the list
has to be here and you have to be on it. To me that means that this is YOUR
list and it is/will be whatever you all make of it. If you all are like me
you are probably on way to many mail lists. This one is one you have no
choice about. The list doesn't have to be all about check-ins and state
business. On another state list we had a long thread about old family
recipes. On that list we crow about a new branch on the family tree or blow
off steam when someone jumps your case about something on your site(s). I
discovered two "cousins" by our chit-chat on the list. If your doing
research for something and come across something that would be of interest
to another CC it could be posted to the list.
This is your list. There's no need for everyone to just be an anonymous name
on the list once or twice a month. The list could be used to make a family,
the CoGenWeb Family. To make friends. All here share a common interest,
Colorado.
The list isn't here just for the amusement of the SC and ASC.
Something to think about.
