Happy Birthday to me. Happy birthday to me. Well, got a few days yet. 70
going on 5 as Tracie says. Growing old is mandatory but growing up is
optional.
Anyway, I'm still kicking. Got tied up in a new book, The Oregon Trail.
It's a kind of tour guide to driving the Oregon Trail from St. Jo to the
Pacific. Loads of information about those that travelled the trail. I'm
getting close to the end of it, FINALLY. THEN, like some kind of idiot,
I adopted two more counties, near and dear to my heart, right in the
middle of my book odyssey. One was in pretty good shape. Pretty much a
change of the "mailto's" and some tidying up. Done. The other needed a
complete rewrite. Loads of good information there but very poorly done
with no organization at all. Seemed to take forever, but less time than
the book has. On top of all that, about a year and a half ago I went
back to work in an attempt to get our income closer to our outgo. Signed
up for "part time" but somehow I am not so sure they understand what
"part time" means. I got a letter from the company a while back that
because of the hours I've been working I qualify for full time benefits.
As some of you know Tracie and I are involved with a television station
in Wichita, Kansas. The station is run on wishes, dreams, blood, sweat
and tears. In the past year we have had some major issues with the
station. It went off the air for nearly a month with equipment issues.
Then just last month the rent on the transmitter site was tripled. We
had three days to get out or cough up. That site was on top of the
tallest building in Kansas. Twenty-three, twenty foot floors, by
elevator then two more by stairs to the transmitter room. The antenna
was another three floors above that. I couldn't get off work on such
short notice so Tracie had to go up alone and help get everything taken
apart and down. Over the weekend they got everything, except the
antenna, up to the new location atop the second tallest building in
Kansas. Twenty-six, twelve foot floors, up the elevator and only one by
stairs. I managed three days off so we were back to get everything up
and running. We got the microwave link working and all the equipment
hooked back up, EXCEPT for one little box that decided it was time to
die. Back home for a couple days. While we were gone they "roped" the
antenna up the outside of the new location and got it mounted. Back to
finally get back on the air. We, Tracie and I, have a radio repeater
that we share space with the station so we got that back up and running.
Only one more thing to get working but it's not a major issue. We run a
second microwave link to connect the computer at the transmitter site to
the network back at the station. It' s not really necessary but very
convenient. Saves running back and forth between the transmitter and the
station.
AND, somehow I buggered my right arm and had to have an MRI Wednesday.
SO, if you were wondering why I've been missing in action lately, now
you know the rest of the story.
